For most nonbelievers who are 30+ there probably isn’t much that will make them believe at this point. The main reason for that is because there is no end to the number of things they will attribute to random chance. Some say proof will help, but if they were given proof they’d probably dismiss it as a trick, illusion, hallucination, etc. Also, they believe many things without having proof of it so I don’t think it’s actually the proof issue preventing many of them from believing in God. Whatever they believe about the creation of the universe is believed without proof, along with many other things in their day to day life. No hate though, everyone has to walk their own path.

As far as what convinces most nonbelievers, I’d say it’s the act of dying and coming back to life. Many have experiences during that time that convinced them to believe without a doubt that there is a Higher Power. Could also be some other personal experience, but the most powerful one is probably an NDE.

The Bible never claims the earth is 6,000 yrs old though…if that is where you are going. Also carbon & radiation dating are highly flawed.

Either way, abiogenesis is statistically impossible & Darwin’s model evolution is completely broken. 4 or even 13 billion odd years is nowhere near enough time to randomly stumble upon the information required to build life. There is a finite number of life forms(generation), because time itself is finite in relation to life on the planet. It's not possible.

LOL, we can measure small evolutionary changes in decades boyo. You must not have a clue just how long 1 billion years is.

And yes of course carbon dating is flawed but all the science that makes computers work and gives us the ability to communicate across the world in seconds works like a charm, as well as all the other science we enjoy, but carbon dating is flawed...

He'd rather believe a 2,000 year old book that is rife with BS than modern science lol. Science isn't perfect, but it also doesn't claim the moon creates its own light.

It is really hard to understand how this book still holds people in such sway. I guess some folks are so afraid of dying that they'll suspend all reason for the potential in the story that they happened to pick the correct religion and they will truly be saved.

It really comes down to that:

1. They are scared of death and believing there is a heaven will help them cope with that.

2. They do not understand many things, and because of this they believe a god must have done it.

I'm atheist, but I could be open to the possibility of a god/higher power existing. But organized religion is pure and utter BS.

Fear being a reason to believe in God is actually the same reason many people choose not to believe in God, probably even more so. There's a differnce between wanting there to be a God and knowing there's a God.

The countless coincidences and its frequent occurrences when I reach out is what personally keeps my faith strong.

Why anyone chooses to believe/not believe isn't as simple as you put it. Have an open mind.

I actually do believe the earth is only 6000 years old. Think about it, when God created Adam and Eve, did he create them as babies. Or full grown adults?

Now if Adam and Eve died the next day after being created, and hundreds of years later they were dug up, how old would the archeologist say they were? 1 day old? No, they'd say they were full grown adults.

Same thing with the Earth imo. God created a full grown earth that looks older than what it actually is, just like the first humans, IMO.
Isaiah 45:22-23. Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth: for I am God, and there is none else.

I have sworn by myself, the word is gone out of my mouth in righteousness, and shall not return, That unto me every knee shall bow, every tongue shall swear.

lol @ thinking the attempts are limited to earth. the conditions for life exist in millions (maybe billions? trillions? can't even comprehend the scale) of places throughout the universe. if it ever did succeed (which you acknowledge it could through random chance), any result of that success would judge itself as impossible. based on what you've said, it's a given that life would form on an infinite time scale and the outcomes would likely follow a normal distribution since you think you can define the amount of conditions and the probability of each condition (otherwise you couldn't have an estimate for a reasonable amount of time). with millions, billions or trillions of attempts, you'd have some that happen significantly faster than others (this is the second thread where you've shown you have no idea what a standard deviation is). and that would make it perfectly reasonable for us to be here right now through chance, based on the constraints you've given.

Asking for miracles isn't really enough depending on your worldview. That would just be evidence of what we call supernatural, or a being with special powers.

God imo is the kind of thing that would be true or existent by definition, regardless of whatever might be observed in the universe.

If your view is that the universe operates as a self sustained metaphysical machine, you should still probably say either there is no God or that God is the universe.

A better question imo would asking about what God is like that we could understand...and that's going to be very limited or maybe nothing at all.

Questions like, does the metaphysical underpinning of the universe have anything like what we would call emotions or intelligence seem more appropriate imo...since God as a concept is usually so tied to religious practices which muddy the waters.

When I was in 3rd grade I had a wart on my thumb. Every Friday at mass I would put some Holy Water on it and pray for it to go away. And it did.

I literally believed in miracles for a few years after that and that was before I ever took any drugs.

True story.

Yes small evolutionary changes is all you will ever observe. Never a species change from one to the next. As I’ve stated before, much of what is usually attributed to mutations in the nature is simply adaptation, and that adaptation has today a name, EPIGENETICS. It is a system that does not change the DNA, it regulates gene-expression and does not need those millions of years to do it. In fact a good example of epigenetic adaptation are the Galapagos finches. It was supposed until recently that changes in the size and form of their beaks required time periods typical to the Darwinian explanation, observations have however confirmed that the changes occur continuously (as rapidly is in a couple of years) and are reversible.

Trust me Sillie..you don’t want to debate me on this. I was an atheist for most of my life, I know every argument there is.
