Not really, all kinds of gaming have pretty much become mainstream. The main distinction I'd make between PC and console is that consoles are mainly for normies who play chit like fifa and cod. While PCs are for people who taking gaming more serious and play more sophisticated stuff.

You're changing your definitions now.

We aren't talking about half the population because as per your own post the PC gamer is the one who takes gaming much more seriously. These aren't your kids who have a PC for other things and also have fun with games on the side. If that's your definition of a PC gamer then they are more pleb than console gamers since the latter is the one with a dedicated gaming machine.

Be specific with your post. Is a PC gamer the one who has a dedicated, high cost rig and accessories that he uses to specialize in gaming? That's the guy who games alot and plays more "sophisticated" games as you say. He upgrades parts, tinker with settings, overclocks and min/max and keeps up with the tech. No, not at all. Whenever I play games with friends, whether it's age of empires, football manager or minecraft they almost exclusively play on a laptop. I game on a laptop myself as well. I don't have any worldwide stats but I'd be surprised if laptop gamers don't make up at least half of all pc gamers.

I'd definitely agree somebody who builds their own high end rig is a nerd. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Not anymore, but used to be; enough sites make gaming PCs now and everything is pretty much plug and play so it's a lot more accessible. Prices have come to a point that you can get a decent rig for less than $1000 and consoles are pushing around half that but PC games are often much cheaper and on sale a lot more.

Okay get where you're coming from and I'd generally agree but I won't quite consider a laptop guy playing AOE or Minecraft any more sophisticated or "true gamer" than someone on console. Like Terry playing Cyberpunk on his laptop thinking he's playing at 4k60 full RT is just as sophisticated as your average Sonycel lol.

When I think about a PC gamer I picture a dude with a giant nerd tower with top tier parts including water cooling and RGB lights everywhere. At least 2 monitors joined together, possibly a wide angle curved one. Of course a KB and mouse that also have RGB and a crazy speaker setup.

I'm not coming from some console wars or PC master race kind of position though, which I guess you're not used to in this section lol. I feel ike your general console gamer is more of a "lazy gamer" where you just hit the play button and lie down on the couch. I guess picking out some stereotype stuff like fifa and cod was kinda easy because PC has the same kind of "normie" games like Fortnite and CSGO etc.

A true gamer enjoys both console and PC gaming imo. No reason to exclude one entirely when both offer different advantages.

Disagree 1000% with this. Sounds really gatekeepy.

A true gamer is someone who really enjoys playing videogames and considers it a primary hobby of theirs. You spending 2 hours per day playing Minecraft and 2 hours playing Zelda doesn't make you more of a gamer than me spending 4 hours per day playing God of War on my only console.

But pc gaming in the 90s/2000s was different. It was more for geeks back then, while nerds played dungeons & dragons or buried their noses in books.

25% of the time, it's a hand-me-down port.

The other 75% of the time, the PC absolutely mogs the console-cels.

When mods come into the picture, PC mogs cons-cels 100x over.

When ultra high performance comes into the picture and you got a strong setup, PCs mog console cels.

When online play comes into the picture, PC mogs console cels.

It's true that a bad port and hackers can be an issue but PC just provides a superior experience.

Not at all. Almost everyone needs a PC anyways and it allows you to play everything in one machine instead of spread over multiple consoles. If you want to play some random PS2 or SNES game or whatever you can just easily emulate it. I kind of cringe every time I look at my entertainment center and the 3-4 consoles inside it plus the few others in storage as well as all these games lol.

Specifically for gaming only.

Lets be real if console was Variable frame rate with g-sync or freesync 60fps-120fps......I'd never play PC again.

Only real reason PC is better is because consoles poverty Frame Rates...30fps-60fps is unacceptable.

That is changing now though.
Nothing is changing. 95% of the time devs build and optimize the game around console since that's the main target. PC gets the poverty port and they let PC brute force it which is quite inefficient.
