Moving from PC to Console

I've been a mix all my life between Consoles and PC and loved them both for varying reasons but as I've gotten older with an office job, getting home and unwinding on PC is becoming tiresome and a tad anti-social, I'm a casual gamer, and use it unwind rather than reading a book or watching trash TV.

What I love about PC is high refresh rates and the fact its bleeding edge, but thinking about just getting a Series X and Game Pass, plugging it into an OLED TV and calling it a day, and now with Microsoft acquiring all these new studios it seems like a no brainer.

Are consoles still stuck in 30fps land? or is 60-120fps the new norm? this is the deciding factor for me. 30FPS is unplayable but 60fps on a tv seems pretty smooth.

Has anyone else given up their PC for Console?

I have both a high powered PC and Xbox series x, plus a steam deck with windows installed.

My preference is the console. The fantastic part about the GamePass ECOSYSTEM is that no matter where you play, your saves come with you.

Play where you are comfortable. I love kicking back with the console after a hard day rotting in my cube. Who wants to come home from work and go back onto a PC ? Not me anymore.

Completely agree with you op and that's the reason I moved on from being a PC gamer of 10 years. It's just too much stress, when I'm home I wanna kick back, press a button and start gaming with no worries on my OLED. That said, why in the fuk would you move from a PC to poverty PC aka Xbox? Nothing new, nor exciting.

If you're moving to the console world you want to get the one that is mogging in sales, popularity across the board and therefore the one big studios are focused on delivering the top experience on. If you're switching to console, don't half ass it with a half assed console. Get a real one, go full PS5.

I've play on console for most of my gaming only because I've never purchased a high powered GPU. Whatever money I had to spend on electronics I would use it on consoles simply because console gaming feels more "gamey". If I had the choice right now between a high end GPU or PS5, I'd most likely go with a PS5 just out of habit.

One thing I dislike is that the PS4 can be kinda slow or the graphicical experience could be better for certain games.

@CoalMan I've always been Nintendo and Xbox, so I can't even be nostalgic and revisit the old PS games cause I never played them as a kid lol.

XBOX game pass is just too good to pass up.

Don't listen to coal, he likes rebuying the same game over and over and over again.

You can't beat Xbox first party variety, and like you mentioned, GamePass, the best deal in existence.

Starfield is just around the corner. Imagine buying a PS5 and missing out on that! And with the ABK deal closing soon, even more will come to GamePass !

Consoles are still in 30-60 FPS land OP, particularly with the more demanding games. FFXVI does 1440p (upscaled from 720p) 60fps, or 4k (upscaled from 1440p) at 30 FPS. But if you want Sony exclusive games, gotta get a PS5.

Ultimate combo is PC + PS5. Lots of PC exclusives, some Sony exclusives, might as well cover both. PC obviously gets better performance and quality opportunities. Sometimes PC gets games before the consoles, like Baldur's Gate 3.

If you build a PC at the higher end of the current generation (example being RTX 4080 or better, i7 14700k) then hardware wise you'd have zero incentive to play consoles or feel the need to upgrade your PC till 2 or 3 generations down the line (PlayStation 6, RTX 60 series, etc.).

Can't go wrong with the Series X, get an Elite controller and the SSD and you'll be set.

Don't forget that Game Pass has cloud gaming and a PC library. Handy if you have travel a lot.

Games vary from 30hz to 120hz, depending what it is. Witcher 3 at 30 is unplayable, Red Dead Redemption at 30 runs well enough. Ori at 120 runs great.

consoles are ok but nothing beats pc. 144hz true 4k, can use whatever controller you want, plus how the hell are you gonna play fast paced fps like doom eternal or high precision shooters like csgo on console? or even stuff like path of exile 2?

OP you should just get a mini-itx case and build a pc you can keep in your living room. i've been thinking about doing this myself since i have a spare rtx 3080 laying around after i upgraded and SSDs and RAM are so cheap. i'd call it the moggstation

I am skipping this gen's consoles and instead bought a $1500 msi laptop to hook up to my 55" lg oled.

With a 12th gen Intel i7-12650H and a Nvidia 4060 it runs games very well. Witcher 3 at 1440p/high settings/raytracing, I get consistent 60 fps, and it looks excellent.

Well this is what I mean.

RDR2 I got on PC and runs at 100fps+ on Max settings @1440p
Does this run only at 30fps with no 60fps option?

That's correct. Now Xbox has given up on the FPS boost thing, older games won't get a boost.
Rockstar is probably a bad example because they're lazy as fuark. Some devs release versions of older games for the Series X with updates.

I think the new Forza is claiming 60hz with 4k and ray tracing. I don't think you'll be seeing any better than that on a console.

To me the difference in 120hz to 60hz is a lot more meaningful when your sitting at a desk less than metre away from your screen.
60hz and 4k on a console when you're sitting back on the couch with a controller is pretty tolerable for most.

If you want bleeding edge graphics, PS5 is the cream of the crop. It boasts graphics of the year awards on its exclusive games and has won such awards for 2 years straight now, and the graphics will only get better as developers learn to harness more power from it. If you like to dine at cheap 'n' cheerful buffet restaurants with poor quality but high quantity food, Gamepass is a better pick. But if you're not a poorcel and can afford some fine dining, PS5 is the way to go

Ok so say I go down the PS5 route.

What is the game pass equivalent? PlayStation plus premium?

Yeah. Well I have ps plus deluxe idk what the difference is but I pay for the best one because, well it's the best one.

I have both ps5 and xbox. The other guys in this thread will talk about "poverty and fine dining" but I'm the one who actually owns both so listen to me not those poverty one console owners.

Ps plus actually has a **** load of good games on it, it's decent value.

6 months ago I'd have said get a Ps5 for sure, but now to me its an open question because starfield looks ****ing amazing. I'd watch the starfield reveal and then make your decision.

I think you're the best person for a PS5 then, holy fuk. Last year to now has been the best year of my gaming life getting to experience so many amazing games I never did before. And I had a PS4 and played a few of them previously but I was mainly on PC. Not anymore.

You'd be missing out on a whole world of top games.

I'd highly suggest the psn plus, like the mid tier at least. You'll be busy for a long time.
