out of the list i'll roll with hogwarts legacy

its a great open world game and the only thing that comes to mind is they could have done is added a quidditch game mode or something.

Hogwarts has a larger diversity of players. Very few problems, great development.

Diablo 4 has too many problems and died quickly. If it wins, it's because money and corruption is involved. Srs

FF16 looks pretty sick, but haven't played it. Not sure it's been out long enough yet, but it's def more of a contender than several others.

BG3 has a few issues, but i think the issue here is that it has a smaller diversity of players, which they might not be considering.

So I'd put my money on Hogwarts. IMO, it has everything. It was extremely well done in every way.

The problem I see here is that Zelda is only available on one platform. This day in age, that can cripple a game's popularity and ability to reach as many gamers.

Although you could argue the sales of Zelda is high, just remember that not all of these games have been released across all of the platforms that they will be available on.

It should be Baldurs Gate 3 without a doubt, an incredible achievement and Larian deserves all the accolades.

But it'll be Zelda, still well deserved though. This year has been incredible for gaming.

BG3 is just the cherry on top.

It really has been. Its been several years since we have seen so many good games.

Elden Ring started it off.

Before these, the last few that I put this much time in to were DAO, DSIII, and dragon quest.

Can't bet against Starfield.
Haven't seen an RPG with that much hype and scope for a long time.

Zelda will do well too.
It seems the new Baldurs Gate game is pretty good also.

Can't see Harry Potter or Star Wars beating those.

We also have Forza coming out this year, but might be too niche to win.
Lies of P could be a smokey too.

It's Tears of the Kingdom.

All of these people praising BG3 that are on the voting board largely haven't even completed Act 1. Once they get to Act 2 and 3, I think they'll find that they're less enamored with the game whereas people are STILL talking about Tears of the Kingdom. GOTY should be obvious. There are a ton of good games this year, but I think ToTK is the media darling and a lock for the award.

Wot? Act 2 is even better than act 1 and act 3 is great too.

Hell Act 1 alone is better than TOTK...And I love Zelda but TOTK is just BOTW dlc.

Uh huh, and you would know that...how exactly?

Based on experience (early Act 2 right now) and what I've read the first two acts are more or less flawless, while act 3 does appear to have some performance issues and bugs related to the metric ton of quest/character flags that mostly go away if you keep resting. Suggesting that it's a bait and switch with a polished Act 1 that was mostly shown in EA and just a mess for the rest is dishonest at best.

Tears of the kingdom and it’s not even close.

I’d go as far as to say if someone doesn’t like it I’d be very hesitant to trust their opinions on games. I even didn’t like BOTW at all, but totk is a masterpiece.

U wot m8? For me it seems like TOTK hype died fast as fuk lol. Don't really hear it being talked about much at all, I've heard many say it felt like they've been there, done that already as the map is the same etc. Also heard people say it feels like a glorified DLC.

The first game left a much bigger impression.

It's certainly a great year. If FF16 and Jedi didn't fail to meet expectations and the upcoming Starfield, AC6 and SM2 knock it out of the park then you can have a strong case for best ever.

Obviously BOTW as the game that revolutionized the genre would blow more minds. TOTK seems to just be continuing the same game and even uses the same map which doesn't feel as exciting to me. It's just not as ground breaking as the predecessor.

The thing is totk uses the map and fills it completely with content, whereas BOTW was an empty world with little to do. Totk has the entire map filled with so many things to do, quests, and cut scenes. Not only does it fully utilize the original map, it has has a sky area map, and a full underground map. It’s not like a dlc but more of a full release of what seemed like an alpha test game (BOTW). Everything wrong with BOTW, TOTK fixed.

Yo, I get you. I'm not saying the game is bad or anything, I haven't played it. I'm just saying that BOTW was the big new reboot after so many years and TOTK is more of the same, just better. Which is fine, but if you rehash the same map that many have played 100 times already, even if you add much more content, it will still feel very familiar.

I'm a Horizoncel for example and I would be so disappointed if part 2 was just the same map as part 1, just with more things to do. I know the map like the back of my hand and I'm glad we got something completely new.
