9-5 unless physical work like on an oil rig. I'd rope if I had to cube 12 hours a day or for 28 straight days LMAO.

28 days is on an oil rig but for a specialized position where you are mainly monitoring computers and doing paperwork/emails.

The next promotion on the Rig would be into a management level role where you would be responsible for maintaining a lot of the ships systems and also responsible for all of the cargo and stability so you would be doing a lot of labor.

Funny you mention the recovery. I’m trying to adjust my sleep schedule back to normal after working the 1800-0600 watch and I’m struggling.

Depends on the paid time off and family situations.

If both offer good paid time off, it's a more difficult debate. If one offers way more paid time off than the other, probably that one.

If you have a family, or want to have a family in the near-ish future, then forget the job with working 28 straight days stuff. The 28 days off stretches would be glorious, but you'd be one miserable pile of crap for the whole 28 day working stretches. You probably only get to properly enjoy 21 of 28 or so of the days off too, because you probably need a few days to adjust from being off work and going back to work all the time.

Not gonna lie though, if you have no family stuff to worry about that 28 on/28 off schedule would be pretty cool. That 28 days off stretch would be awesome as a younger brah especially. Probably need to be careful with that though, because it's easy for single guys with schedules like that to waste all their free time rotmaxxing.

I’d say 2 weeks PTO for 9-5 gig. Not sure to be honest though. For the 28/28 gig there is no paid time off. Also no holiday pay for the 28/28, everyday is the same where as you get federal holidays off for the 9-5.

I’ve been doing the 28 day rotation for the past 10 years. Considering a change but I’m pretty acustom to this schedule. I’m also single with no kids so I have zero expenses when working besides mortgage, electricity, cellphone, etc… im spending no money for half the year which helps save a lot and all good and travel is paid for by company when working.

I do plan on settling down though within the next 2 years and starting a family.

I'm working 1830 - 0630 two weeks on/2 weeks off. I'm home by 1pm after my last shift and then stay up till 8pm ish and then I'm recovered and on a regular schedule.

Sucks being away from family 2 weeks at a time I'd choose to be home if I could.

I feel ya homie. There are talks we might go to 21/21 instead of 28/28 because everyone is exhausted from the summer heat. Prior to COVID we were 21/21 but switched during and never changed most likely because it saves the company money logistically for travel. the 28/28 allows me to do more traveling and enjoy my time off a bit more than 21/21 but I feel for the roughnecks and roustabouts who are slaving away on the drill floor everyday. they are usually exhausted after 2-3 weeks.

Meanwhile im in the AC wearing a sweatshirt everyday and the only time im burning calories is during my workout prior to my shift.

If younger and/or no family, do the 2nd option. Work lots of overtime as desired, or not. 1 month on 1 month off sounds dope to me.

If older and/or with family, M-F 9-5. Conform to the normal schedule so you can do normie chit. Might be the most comfortable since you get 2 days off per week. Be free and available for more things for your wife/kids/friends, and not have situations where you're doomed to miss some things due to the month.

Yeah my biggest "fear" with continuing doing the 28/28 is missing future kids growing up and not maximizing my earnings potential. If I continue offshore then I could max out at about $250k/year plus bonuses. If I went 9-5 I think $180 would probably be close to max. I also want to give my future wife the ability to stay home and raise the kids for the first 3-5 years of their lives before sending her back to work. To do so in today's world I feel I would need to be making $250k in order to maintain my lifestyle and add 2-3 additional people into it.

What % of wagecuck jobs pay at least $250k?

I'm not sure. I don't think I'd be able to make that kind of money taking a shoreside position unless I went back to school for an MBA and tried to become a higher up in Operations but that would require a lot of work and changing my home location which I won't do. I like being 5 mins from the beach.
