I don't have any mental illness. Experiencing human life and the ups and downs that go with it is not mental illness as much as society wants you to believe... Ever heard the saying, "choose your doctor, choose your diagnosis." Its true. Psychiatry has become profiting off of human experience. It's really hard to consider it a science.

I was hit in the head with a swing when I was a kid. Mom says my personality completely changed and I started getting bad grades in school afterwards.

The diagnostic criteria is super broad and purely subjective to doctors opinions. And the doctors aren't subjective themselves, they are incentivized to diagnose everybody who sits in front of them. Psychiatry is a scam and the system is broken. Talk to a psychologist if anybody is having problems.

Maybe ADHD. I'm doubtful on the way disorders are classified and how they are addressed. A lot of "treatment" IMO is applying chit that works for one person/situation to a variety of people/situations that are totally different and can cause damage.

Hero of Alexandria harnessed steam to spin a sphere 2000 years ago, and yet it took over 1500 years to put steam to work....I feel we are not even at the point of understanding the basic mechanics on what is going on in our brain, let alone figuring out what's wrong... especially since the serotonin theory has come under question.

Unfortunately some people are born more prone to mental illness than others, but saying that I suspect if people were to exercise have better self-esteem and have interests and physically socialise more (not online) the cases could be reduced dramatically!

At least two that I remember. Kids used to go outside and do stuff without adult supervision. Heard I was kind of a daredevil...climbing on everything.

IMO there is a little bit of truth to this. It is an evolving field and if you see someone who was educated to diagnose symptoms as X then that is probably the diagnosis you will get. I think that the somewhat recent interest in trauma and the lasting physical effects + recognition of atypical neurology + recognition of different expression related to sex are the three biggest changes since around 2000 or so.

Atypical w/trauma history + two periods being dxed w/depression [late teens/post-partum...hormonal things?].

I feel pretty confident that I don't think in the same way as the majority of people. Is it genetic? Environmental influence? Trauma?

IDK. I know I was oxygen deprived in utero for some period of time. My mom was a stress case who had difficulty w/pregnancy and childbirth. I had some challenges in early childhood which today would probably lead to a dx, but not back then. Electrocuted, a near drowning, at least two concussions...

Good or bad I knew no helicopter parenting, had immature parents, and my relationship w/my mom would fall under enmeshed/parentified. Blah.

Still here. Consciously trying to be in the present and focus on the positive.

It's tough sometimes, not due to broader events in the world though there are too many messed up situations. I notice that stuff, but I don't feel emotionally connected to it in general. Things you can't control and all that. Battling against yourself, trying to be better, trying to make the right choices, all the emotional stuff...that's the stuff that's hard.
