Target go woke, go... (Pride month collection)

Target slashes full-year forecast as retailer struggles to win over thrifty shoppers

Target cut its full-year sales and profit forecast as it tries to win over shoppers who are watching their wallets.

The retailer’s second-quarter earnings beat expectations, while its sales fell short of estimates.

Target said backlash to its Pride month collection contributed to weaker sales.

Chief Financial Officer Michael Fiddelke said on the call with reporters that it is hard to quantify which factors most contributed to Target’s slower sales. Among them, customers continued to buy less clothing, home decor and other nonessential items while paying more for food, energy and rent. The company’s sales tailed off compared with a year-ago period when sharp markdowns helped clear through a glut of inventory and drove purchases.

And Target faced backlash in late May over its collection of merchandise celebrating Pride month, including some items it later pulled after threats to employees. The decision to remove certain items sparked more criticism.

Cornell said“negative reaction” to Target’s Pride collection had a material impact on sales. But he defended the company’s response and said after Target removed some items in June out of concern for employee and customer safety, it “saw things normalize.” He said it will continue to have a collection for Pride month and other heritage months.

i do maybe 2 times per year.

We have stopped shopping at Target. Well, I should say my wife. We have one 6 min from the house. My wife used to go weekly. Just was always odds and ends. Probably $150/week on avg. We decided to not spend money there any longer.

Small little things like voting with where you choose to spend money.

My sister wanted to plan a family trip together to meet in Disney. Said, "nope". I wont spend a single dollar to support them either. Maybe not much, but if everyone did this, the message would be loud and clear.

Nope, once when my brother worked there, he got a discount, something like 15%, I used his discount with a 20% off coupon for a flatscreen and saved like four hundred dollars.

Oooff...was just popping in here to say I shop there frequently and I like their **** they have. After seeing this racist stuff, I actually will go elsewhere. I dgaf about pride (unless neglectful moms bring their kids to drag shows), but when you blatantly say "No Asians, no Hispanics, no Whites allowed", then I say "**** you" to the racists. My paltry $1k I probably spend there isn't much, but I'd rather not have my dollars go to outright racists.

They had some good sauerkraut but Sprouts tends to be way better than anyone else in that regard. There is a Target right on my way home if I take an alternate route, so it's very convenient. I found them to be somewhat overpriced but did used to shop there maybe 1/month for random reasons.
