Video upscalers for older consoles

Are these any good? What's the consensus on these? I was considering buying some HDMI converter for my Gamecube (goat console btw) but I've heard mixed things. Some say they can mess with the audio output, some say they are janky and overheat and can fuk up your console.

Anyone use them? Not just Gamecube adapters, either. Are these made by legit engineers and manufacturers or are they made in some neckbeard's parent's garage?

I prefer the original experience but I have a buddy who has a few of those adapter/converter type setups and they work fine for him. Probably depends on the specific case whether it'll work.
