Why do liberals think we are responsible for taking care of EVERYONE in the world?

Why do the liberals feel that 330 million people in America are supposed to care and provide for nearly 8 billion people worldwide, as long as those people beg for it and come over illegally?

Why does it fall on us? Why can't we worry about ourselves? How much foreign aid has the U.S. received from others in the past 150 years?
