Current RAM 1500 trucks
Anyone have one of the newer 1500 with the 5.7L? Local dealer is selling them new in 2023 models with about $12-15k in discounts depending on model. Been thinking about trading in my 2015 F-150. I've test driven one and was really impressed with it but its hard to find details if they are actually as reliable as claimed. Any input from my misc. brethren would be appreciated.

Front and read diff fluid, t-case fluid, and trans pan/filter and fluid. I got the whole kit for under $500. Dealer wanted $2100 lmao. I have a 2020 Bighorn with 65K miles as my work truck. Fantastic truck, only issue has been the 4x4 front axle disconnect failed just before the 60K warranty expired. Otherwise its been 100% bulletproof and I beat the absolute piss out of the thing on heavy civil construction projects every day. There is a reason they have been truck of the year basically every year since the new 5th Gen Ram came out in 2019. They have them very much dialed in, and much more reliable than FCA products of the past. These are not the Dodge trucks of old.
Pros:
- Best driving and riding half ton on the market. I've driven them all, nothing compares outside of Raptor / TRX.
- 5.7L is a great V8 motor and routinely get 20mpg hwy, 18mpg combined on 33" 10ply Cooper AT3 XLT's. Sounds great stock too.
- 8ZF transmission is the best transmission on the market, and reliable as an anvil. 4A system works very well for mixed snow / ice conditions.
- Interior is extremely well laid out, functional, and spacious. Back seats fold up, and flat floor cargo area is very nice.
Cons:
- More power / torque would be nice. Should be addressed with the new Hurricane TT I-6 motor that gets amazing reviews in the new Grand Wagoneer. Soundly trounces the old 6.4HO that powered the Grand Wagoneer last year.
- Could use more payload. But is sacrifice you make with rear coils vs leafs.
- E-torque mild hybrid on the 5.7 doesnt do much for power or mpg. Does however make the auto start/stop of the motor relatively seamless tho compared to any other vehicle I've driven.
If I had to buy a half ton pickup tomorrow (excluding a Raptor / TRX), it would EASILY be a RAM.
For reference, my current personal truck is a 2018 Tundra Platinum with the TRD Pro Fox suspension and other bits under it. My Ram work truck soundly beats it in most everything outside of the leather seats and sunroof.

thats a lot bigger discount than I'm seeing locally. Here its 8-10K. I'm about to buy a used 2021 big horn with 38K on it for 35K from my boss. I would assume with your discount you are clocking in around 45? Seems like a deal imho

I'm looking at a Laramie 4x4 with the 6'4 Bed, level 1 equipment group, tow package and 20" rims for 54k after RAM and Dealership discounts. I wish I had the time to go pick it up this week because its the color and box length I want but it might need to wait until labor day weekend.

Ended up going Big Horn Edition. They didn't have the color bed length combo I wanted in Laramie and honestly the cloth seats are very high quality.

I would rather have cloth seats cause I get dermatitis from leather seats anyway.
I am keeping my eye out for a Big Horn but with the upgraded big info screen and sound system.
How do you like it so far? All the reviews are awesome.

Sounds good for a stock motor. Road noise is VERY quiet for a full size truck, way quieter than my 15 XLT. Uconnect seems easy enough though i just use Apple car play. Ride is probably smoothest of any truck I’ve driven. Averages 20+ on the highway cruising at 75 mph.Congrats!

Like all Chrysler products, it will rust away in 3 years and/or the engine has some defect that kills it early.

I've just sold a BMW i4 electric car I had, and I had the option of buying a Ram 1500 Warlock with whatever the loud exhaust package was - I've moved to a new city where having a 4WD capable vehicle will give you a ton of options in the context of exploring and sightseeing, not used for work at all and I don't do any yard work or hauling - or keeping my Mustang
Test drove it for a bit; I liked the fact that it felt like a comfortable cruiser and it had a chitload of space inside of it - wound up keeping the Mustang
I can't get used to the idea of having a fuk off massive truck as a day to day vehicle like so many people here seem to now - half the people I know with Raptors, Wildtracks, Rams, Silverados etc don't do any of the chit they are capable of doing or indeed designed to do

Great truck. Had a 2022 Big Horn.
Traded it in cause financial situation. Had a kid, wife staying at home, gas hitting $4.50/gallon = $125 to fill up each time x 5 times a month = way too much
But wish I had it back if my financial situation was different. Maybe in a couple of years.

Congrats on the new truck bud, I’ve had a ton of vehicles and brands but have never owned a dodge/ram.
Glad you’re liking it and seeing them steeply discount them around here definitely tempted me on multiple occasions.
I haven’t researched them in awhile, is dodge still running the cylinder deactivation chit?

I bought my RAM Rebel in 2021 for $48k ($58k MSRP) after working them over with the dealer invoice.
Test drove a bunch of full sized trucks but nothing compared to the ride in the RAM, very smooth, even while offroading.
Currently at 36k miles and loving it. I do wish the entertainment screen was bigger, but I didn't want the full sized screen with the other equipment package because I prefer the knobs for climate control etc. Have taken this thing to hell and back, and it's reliably gotten me everywhere I've wanted it to go.
Only major mods are a leveling kit for the front and Wheels/Tires from a TRX. The Rebels come stock with a 1" bodylift.

Just looked up new Rebels and they're MSRPing for $73k now? WTF lol.
Re-sale value is solid though, up $14k.

How are the newer dodge truck's reliability? I know GM still can't make an engine with proper valve train lol.
