Don't know how to explain it. Its like I got to experience something that simply doesn't have an analog in the US. I enjoyed it immensely, but it was terse and stressful.

White has become synonymous with "western" in SA and its nearly impossible to defuse because there are so many valid criticisms of the west. The entire world is being setup for war.

Back already? Glad you enjoyed it mostly. I'm getting ready for 6 months there, end of September or so. Interested to read about your experiences. Even being raised there, I still get quite a culture shock each time. You forget about certain aspects, unlearn some things each time you leave.

Noice - would love to hear about your trip, OP.
I loved a lot about South Africa when I lived there. Beautiful country.
Race relations were not actually that bad when I was there, but it sounds like they are getting a lot worse.

Recent graduates and young professionals applied for ancestral visas in droves. You could walk in to any office building in central London and hear a South African accent; especially Durban.

Easily 8+ hours a day with no electricity. Broken up into sections/rotating schedule . That said, SA is being used a guinea pig for green energy, with a lot of money changing hands. My upcoming 6 month stay is a test to see if I could move back long term. 3 months wasn't enough to really judge things, especially with the terrible black outs.Noice - would love to hear about your trip, OP.

Where did you go, OP? I was in Cape Town for 6 weeks in December/January. Really enjoyed it.
Not sure I would enjoy the rest of the country though. I was able to avoid Loadshedding and all of the other BS that people have to deal with.
