Scanner Radios

Anyone here have a lot of knowledge on scanners?

We live in a rural area and along with some other events over the last few years, we are currently at high risk for fire storms/wild fires. I think it’s time to get a scanner.

Because of ease of use, capabilities, portability etc, I’m interested in the Home Patrol II. It’s an All-in-one deal.

I’m only worried that I’ve seen a few reviews that mention they had reception issues and ultimately, critical failures.

Anyone have any experienced advice on this topic?
