Was shocked at the tax when I went to pick up some oil and filter at Wally World

Sales tax is that high where I live

It’s cause there’s multiple levels of government all digging their fingers into the pot. There’s a state sales tax and a city sales tax

9% doesn’t sound like a lot, but consider that it’s applied to your net pay not gross pay. I bring home about 60% of my gross pay. So a 9% tax on the remaining is equivalent to a 15 percent tax applied to your gross income. All in all I get to spend about half of my money the government gets the other half

Remember when we were kids and we were told America is so great cause our taxes are so low? We’re taxed nearly the same as Canada/Europe, we’re just better at hiding it. And we don’t get chit in return for our taxes
