I love the US, but we’re absolutely fked with the direction we’re headed in. I feel like we’re currently spiraling

I’m literally paycheck to paycheck and chit is rough. It’s hard to even stay motivated in working cuz it feels like ur in a hole that despite doing what u can to dig urself out of, it seems as tho ur effort is futile

Feels like a lot of companies don’t even wanna invest in employees anymore. They expect you to ALREADY have X years of experience, this certification or that degree, this list of requirements u have to meet or else don’t even bother…. and even if u do meet all that, who knows what kind of competition or how much ur up against… and then on top of that, there’s opportunities that you’ll never even hear about or ever even have a chance at without knowing the right ppl or having the right kinds of connections

Things have just went downhill so much it seems

Feels like I’m gonna have to go back to school at 36 to try and finish in order to obtain more marketable skills I guess in order to be able to command more money, but even still it’s like fckkkk…. That’s just taking on more debt “in hopes” of that being the outcome

This stupid ass pandemic chit too ruined a lot of things that I’m sure are permanently changed for good and will never go back to what they were before

None of this would be an issue if women didn't make up 51% of the workforce & 62% of collegiate students


There is literally zero reason for women to work; they don't invent, create nor sustain anything

I graduated and entered the white collar field right after covid and it was brutal. Straight A student with a stem degree, projects on my resume, etc. Took me 200 applications before I landed my job at spectrum. And man what a dog**** company.

I worked in their enterprise department, and for the millions of people spectrum served across the us, we only had 300 employees in that department, 150 of them on shift at any given time. Queues would easily reach over 40mins, certain customers would have 500 accounts, poor documentation, often couldnt find equipment. The place was an understaffed overworked unorganized mess. All for $20/hr.

And best of all is they laid off all of us contractors in feb just because other tech companies were too. I wouldnt want to be the guys stuck there after that.

I would never recommend anyone ever work at that sweat factory. Now im at a better place making wayy more money with less stress. But man its unreal what my generation has to do now to make it. Taking dog**** jobs that dont pay enough that wanna drain the last bit of life outa you. Its no wonder their turnover is so high, and why spectrums service sucks so bad.

Ai is only going to make things worse. But to appeal to investors companies have to put up fake job postings to make it look like theres growth in the company. Look up on youtube joshua fluke ghost jobs. Its real. And its why 2/3 of job postings never reply to you.

I graduated with a Bachelor's a few years before COVID, and you wereluckyif you got a starting pay at $60k/yr or higher. That's about $75k/yr in 2023 dollars after inflation, srs. Kinda crazy what inflation is doing.

Now you're still lucky if you make $60k/yr after you graduate. I know people who graduated around the time I did and theystilldon't even break $40k in 2023, srs.

I will say though that if you're actually good at your job, can talk to people, get relevant certifications and experience, work in an industry with a highish pay ceiling, and try to company hop every 3 years or so... you can still succeed hugely in modern times, srs. I'm projecting $170k this year, versus the $60k/yr I used to make fresh out of college (6 years ago).

We had our first kid just over a month ago, and my wife and I spoke and it's likely she won't go back to work for 3 years. (3 years maternity leave in Germany - your job is legally guaranteed to return to).

Now that we have a baby, I cannot understand how a mother goes back to work after e.g., 3 months. I mean, sure - she's in big law making 800k p.a? Hiring an au pair / nanny etc.? But basically - while breastfeeding - nothing should come between a mother and her baby imho.
