Never understood why Ray Brower didn't hear the train coming...

Even if he were deaf, you'd think he'd still feel the vibration, right? Especially in the late 50s, when trains were at their loudest. Maybe he was trying to do a train dodge or something....?.... like Teddy. Or could it be that he intentionally took his own life...? Suicide by locomotive? I don't know, fellas. Can't really find any excuse though. No excuse for him to have not gotten off those tracks. Kid got killed over some stupid blueberries.
