Super drunk, AMA; Corrections for almost 9 years and going.

Well, drunk and off today and had someone ask me some questions so here's an AMA...

Worked in CA as a C/O for almost 9 years now and still going. I'll answer anything that doesn't violate confidentiality or safety/security of the institution (basic disclaimer) and most sht is a lot less interesting than you think.

So ask away until I pass out, 10 shots in so we'll see how that goes.

Also heading this one off at the start, no rape isn't common, dealt with 5 rapes or so, and one guy did 4 of them. Movies overhype that a lot.

In order.

Depends, I work nights mostly, OT everywhere. I see 10-50 dicks a week. Work in workchange and have to strip out inmates who go through, you seeing 100+ dicks per day.

Nope, no women at my prison, some trans but that's it. I fcking love trans inmates by the way, always respectable and funny, srs.

Trannies have to put in paper work to be housed specially. Most do not want to, so they are 'women' but not on paper.

I am a dick, full on *******, all day everyday. You earn respect by being fair, and consistent; be a dick, but always be it, don't be officer friendly one day and ******* the next. Also, fck with them, sure, but don't get mad when they do it back. Take a joke. Another thing, respect works both ways, show it, earn it.

Not saying even we do checks on at risk suicide every 15 minutes... but someone fcked up. Best believe I have multiple forms to document how often I check suicidal/at risk inmates. Every 15 fcking minutes.

What is your experience with contraband watch? I heard it is a cake job.......


Also when I was in I got 3% @50. New job is 2% @55. I still keep all the earned years at 3%, should be good to go by 55ish....

Interesting, I guess it makes sense to be consistent.

Are there any jobs to "move up/out" to be an officecel and not in direct work with the inmates? would you want to do that?

Can you transfer out the the prison entirely to a different gov job and still keep your pension?

Hahaha, we had a badge we made new cops wear that said 'Sht Sherriff' until we got in trouble for it. Easy spot unless the guys shts, have fun digging through turds; especially if the guy didn't have anything since 3 clean poops got him off so he'd sht all he could.

So, I make $8,600/mo, overtime on top of that, and we just got a raise (3% this year and next) also benefits and retirement. But I do love it. I have a crazy work environment, hostile, legit death threats, but dammit I love it.

I have met incredible people, staff and inmates, and when you walk across a prison yard, full yard and 500 inmates or more, and they give you the little nod of good morning/afternoon whatever. Nothing tops that; knowing my partners will fight with me to the death if it came to it (been there) nothing tops it.

I can lateral to anything, personnel, account, counselor; or just bid a spot like Front Entrance which is no inmate contact, jobs like that exist. I'd never do it, I like fcking with people too much and I like working, I'd be bored as hell in an office spot. Bored? Fck it, I'm searching cells or pat downs, I can be as busy as I want.

If you want to leave inmates behind, you can Also any State job retains my pension, as is, until I retire.

Thats cool, i do part desk work and part non desk work, I like that, I would loose my mind being a cubecel for 8 hours a day.


Do you have any crazy stories? Im sure after 9 years theres a bunch but any that stick out of inmates doing crazy chit.

I've heard stories of inmates telling guards that they know where their family lives and they'll have them fooked up if they don't do what they ask.

A lot, some funny, some not funny unless you work the job. Ever have to tell a grown ass man he has to wear pants? I Have.

No escapes, a few 'walk aways' from the level 1; one actual escape attempt but he never even hit the fence, so meh.

Nope, I'm in CCPOA Bargaining Unit 6. Hours are... as demanded; 40 now sure, OT is slow. When I started, 80+/week. Not voluntary.

A lot of chomos; they are on sperate yards than GP, but it's not like the movies. Raped a dozen kids, whatever, you will be fine. I wish I was joking. Plenty of murders, various reasons for it, but yeah, seen a few take their last breath.

Legit had an inmate say my address to me once. I keep guns for a reason. It is not common though, very rare in fact for them to threaten staff (legitimately). We get a lot of BS 'staff threats' but it's usually so we go on lockdown for a day or 2.
