I saw that trailer in the theater recently and thought it looked surprisingly good. My oldest daughter (college age) loves horror movies so I'll probably try to see it with her.

The best part of Halloween are the movie marathons. I don't prefer the gorey stuff unless it's slasher style where it's kill and move on. The drawn out torture stuff is no bueno.

This looks like it could be good.
The closer we approach the uncertainty of life's ending the more we wish to trade all of the things we have acquired in exchange for all of the things we have lost: wealth for youth, knowledge for fresh curiosity, resignation for hope. We'd trade our wisdom for new experiences, but it is wisdom that will teach us that at the end of the road the only new experience is death.

Just hearing the theme and bringing Ellen Burnstyn back...I'm kinda sold LOL! They are saying it got really good reviews at the preview so we'll see.

I'm pretty sure we all agree it will never compare to the original. I saw it when I was 8 and from there was immediately hooked on horror.

Nothing will ever come close.

So bad. I like horror movies and always like the possession style ones, but that looks horrible.

Stupid plot, they do WAAAYYY too much to make it completely unbelievable and non-scary, and they just have to do something retarded like have her in blood walking in a church during a mass.

Horrible writing. I swear I could make a much better one.

I'll still probably watch it though haha. Need more new movies to watch for the halloween season.

This comment under the trailer is a perfect summation of my thoughts on modern horror:

"Lifelong horror fan here. I watched The original Exorcist in 1975 when I was in my early teens and I still consider it one of the scariest films ever, if not the scariest. What made it so powerful IMO was the slow buildup with a gradual incursion of evil into very real, gritty lives of people who seemed absolutely credible. The tension was rising, the setting and characters were 100% believable, so that by the time the pea soup was flying, you were all in. The problem with a lot of Hollywood horror now is that they don't take the time to build up that tension or develop the characters, and just go overboard with over-the-top, all-out explosions of supernatural phenonema in your face 15 minutes in, so that you're just numb to it."

First Halloween, now this...David Gordon Green and Danny McBride have really taken advantage of people's desire for warmed over nostalgia and they don't even bother to deliver the goods...why would they even try when people eat it up regardless of quality.

Blatty is gone and any Exorcist movies that he wasn't involved in are regarded somewhere between piss and sh!t...His spirit cursed the franchise before he was even dead. How else could competent filmmakers like John Boorman and Paul Schrader make such dreck?
