It is.

Sad thing is that the Pentagon is so wasteful that our military doesn't fully represent the money invested.

The amount of money we spent on the military, we could have massive subterranean cities and a base on Mars.

Yes. Eisenhower warned the public in his farewell speech for a reason. If /when we have a recession it will ramp up more, with mainstream media acting as a used car salesman to sell more war. Gotta keep those quarterly GDP figures up, since billions in forever war props them up.

The American military is a make work programme.

They can barely win a war and spend more than the next tne country combined.

If we didn't have a defense industry, where would we be? The tech that has been developed has influenced and improved our lives bigly. And like Bob said, it has employed thousand of Americans...from low skill assemblers to highly educated engineers.

My views have become more right wing on the military over time. I used to be full Chomsky but that's naive. The US military has done a lot of bad stuff and so foreign policy decisions must continuously be criticised heavily but on the balance of things US hegemony is better than the alternatives.

US Navy eliminating piracy, the combined strength of NATO, a handful of justifiable military interventions (1st gulf war, Kosovo), the amount of military developed tech that has improved our lives, and some very successful examples of nation building (South Korea, Taiwan etc) yeah I don't entirely oppose the simping for Lockheed and Raytheon.

3.5% of GDP isn't completely ridiculous either.

Military Industrial Complex, its basically defense contractors/paramilitary organizations based from the USA. You can infer the rest from the name as far as the cycle of operations.

Of course.

Allowing former generals to basically immediately slot themselves into executive roles at MIC companies and firms is ridiculous.

That’s basically all senior officers want now. A chance to become a General and then go work in the private sector.

Well, who else would be qualified, though? It's a job that transfers directly over.

Generals are good for three things: Executive management, marketing, and military/political connections.

We brought in a Navy commander as an exec for his leadership experience. He had no knowledge of space operations outside of the major players, but was definitely good at being loud and dragging his feet when he walked.

Never been a fan of hiring C-level suites without any in depth background at the position. But in the case of the MIC, Generals are usually have that in depth background, as a field officer they need to know what theyre doing (hopefully) to get to the general officer ranking. I've seen bad officers get pushed out so I have some confidence in that situation.

If you get the chance, head to the nearest base and see what the worlds largest welfare camp parade around as 'soldiers'. A near-peer enemy will have some fun. Fat, on a physical profile for injuries. 75% were overweight during COVID bs. Glad im retired, I wouldnt lift a finger to fight Russia or China unless that are at my front door. Do not let your kids join this military.

The first time they pushed for the 15 month deployments a ton of great Company Grade officers got out, that vacuum was filled by trash that became Field Grades or worse, todays Flag officers. Too many great Company Commanders said to hell with it and got out, it was rough from 2009 on.

As corrupt and bad as a large part of our govt and the MIC is...if it wasn't for them you would be living under a regime led by Kim Jong Un with zero K pop hotties to sex now.

In fact you probably would have never been born.

And that is the truth.

Which is why your obvious hate for America blows my mind.

You want to take everything that made America....America? And blow it up.

Last I knew no immigrants were pouring into S Korea and completely changing your culture.

So next time you call people such as myself a racist for not wanting the same? You think about that.
Words to live by...."You're at the shopping mall with your girl but a hot chick walks by. Are you going to look at the hot girl? No. You use your peripheral vision."

Deterring Russia is more than worth it. They could justify the less than 1% for pure weapons testing and analysis.

Russia's not really being deterred. They wanted to secure their access to the Black Sea, they did, and nothing has really changed except the US sending more Ukrainians to die.
