Ever have a third party recruiter lie to you about a position's pay?

I went through three round of interviews for an offer to come in at 25% less than the lower pay band advertised. I interviewed with the CTO of the company and was offered a position on the spot pending HR approval. The offer comes back from HR and its hilariously lower than previously advertised. I left a message on HR's phone...no response.

Why does this happen?

Third party recruiters are commission based salespeople, about as ethical and honest as realtors or car dealers.

Its the same numbers game, except they churn people instead of houses or cars. Half of the jobs they advertise don't actually exist, its trolling and bait/switch.

They put up a fake but super attractive position listed with a market leading salary in every market, get their hands on your name and resume then spam it to any job on the other side of their client ledger that's even close to see if anyone bites.

Then they spam you with chitty offers that don't match what they advertised hoping you bite so they can skim a 30% commission on your first year.

Not lie but they pulled the rug on me

They said it was a $105k senior role and then as I got through the interview process they changed it to a $95k regular role

They probably switched bait once they realized I wasn’t qualified enough to be a sr at that time but had potential to be one and wanted to train me

Depending on your experience you should have focused on the long term and took the job

When you are the bottom man in the totem pole your wore doesn't count .

Never had them flat-out lie to me, but they use deceptive bull**** doubletalk like sleazy buttholes.

When talking about salary they will say "has the potential for..." instead of giving me the number for the base pay, which is what will be offered.

brother I am not unemployed and I have multiple offers

I just did not appreciate the fact I made other offers wait
