BG3 vs DOS2 COMBAT: Which do you prefer?

I'm still deciding.

On one hand, I like how in DOS2 it was based on action points, and different skills cost more than others. On the other hand, it was a bit annoying having enemies with different armor and magic armor values. Definitely adds a layer of strategy though.

With BG3, you start out with a much more limited set of actions, but I feel it lets combat go faster, and I like the physical options like shoving and going berserk and ****in tossing people.

What say you upper crust misc?

I prefer the action point system of DOS2 but I hate the Armor vs Magic Armor. I'd rather have raw AC/Resist values of more traditional games.

DOS2 also has more ways to manipulate terrain.

With that said, BG3 (And D&D in general) has some spells / actions that would be awesome in DOS2 (or in a future version).

I do like how dos2 let's you easily manipulate the terrain........... sometimes.

When I use it to my advantage, it's great. When I'm trapped in a fukking necrofire hellhole, I hate it.

the problem I have with games like this is you don't know how good any of this stuff works until you actually use it. so if you end up spending a bunch of skill points on an upgrade/spell and it ends up being ****, you're out of luck.

I haven't played either, but I've heard that with DOS2 the best thing to do is upgrade your armor as much as possible early on, is this true?

in both games, you can very easily respec your build from what I can recall. IMO, in DOS2, it's a priority that you get access to decent beginner spells. The beginning part is slow and difficult when you have limited access to good spells/skills. If you don't use a guide, I guess that part can be difficult to figure out.

The complete repec, from level 1, including changing all your starting stats costs 100 gold, or about the price of one normal heavy crossbow. I'm running around with 32k in my packs in act 3.

I just started DOS2 never played a turn based game before.
No idea what I am doing. Seems like a lot of stuff to learn. Trying to stick with it because this game is rated highly.

It takes some getting used to, but it's fun. Just remember to check vendors for new spells and armor on a regular basis, and pay attention to what type of armor an enemy has before you attack.

Hard to say which I like more.

Both are awesome in their own way. Honestly I cant decide lol ... I do however think that move action and action action being separated in DOS3 is the goat. I hated how your action points was also tied into movement .. I mean i get its for balancing, but stillll

I'm on the fence. I like the AP portion of DOS2 because i hate having to go back to camp after 2 battles because I'm out of spells. But after you hit level 5 and get bonus actions and can do 8 straight attacks, BG3 has potential for big strikes. Killing that gigantic phase spider in about 1.5 turns was very satisfying.

That said, I did like how much easier it felt to manipulate the environment in DOS2, and those manipulations felt more impactful than they do in BG3.

I think it'd be too hard to say one is definitively better.
