BNSF safety inspector fired for finding too many safety defects
https://jalopnik.com/safety-inspecto...cou-1850817520
In another one of the calls, Sanders’ boss sounds upset about a reported defect potentially putting his job in jeopardy, saying, “All I can say is I need your help right now to keep my ass from getting fired.” “I need to just look the other way?” Sanders responds. “No. We just need to have a conversation,” his boss replies.
According to court records obtained by KSTP-TV, that supervisor still has his job and was actually given a raise and a near $20,000 bonus. The performance review that led to that raise and bonus specifically referenced the fact that “Don Sanders is no longer working for BNSF” and the reduction in slow orders.
This article basically shows in a nutshell what is wrong with society. Safety isn't an actual goal, "hitting numbers" is more important. Brb promote a fukking guy and give him a $20k bonus for firing the guy that finds safety defects. Maybe I'm naive but what in the actual fuk. This bullchit attitude is present everywhere I look. Every company I've been too safety is a theater production. It's not just in companies tho, but everywhere. Organizations, govt institutions, school, everywhere. I have to say since I was about 12 every day has been a slow and steady eye opening on the way the world works versus the way it should work (the way I was told it worked). Checked out Boy Scouts in my area, the local "pack" is run by single mothers with tattoos, smokers, ghetto language, and have kids that are just running wild. Noped out. Is there any place that that doesn't engage in false narratives or hypocrisy constantly?According to court records obtained by KSTP-TV, that supervisor still has his job and was actually given a raise and a near $20,000 bonus. The performance review that led to that raise and bonus specifically referenced the fact that “Don Sanders is no longer working for BNSF” and the reduction in slow orders.

Did he find legit safety defects or was he making things up or exaggerating things in order to get more bonus money?
I've had to deal with overzealous safety guys before. One place he came and told me I was standing wrong and that I should stand with my feet further apart and one foot back a little so I don't just fall backwards. I remember he wrote a guy up because he was unloading a lift truck without a harness on because even unloading it with the platform on the ground it "operating" the lift truck. (one of those lifts that a person goes on to get to higher shelves and they have to have a harness on and it has to be attached to the vehicle's safety connections) Didn't matter what you were doing, he always had a criticism and damn he loved his job. One dude got tire of it and was about 10ft up, took his harness off right in front of him and did a flip of of it onto the ground and said "write that up" and walked out. Of course I was off that day but would have loved to see it.

safety inspector was prob a douche. Prob wanted to shut down massive arteries by going by the "book". completely unrealistic, could have made a difference by focusing on solvable issues and not trying to go full "mr smith goes to the railroad."
In the real world chit has to get done so you do it as safely as possible, but you cant nitpick every single thing.

I got bitched at for yelling at the laborer who kept walking outside the safety cables on the leading edge of the building on the upper floors of the job site.
He would step though and id see him from the boom lift and scream at him to get the fuk away from the edge unless hes tied off.
My foreman piece of chit came and told me that is not my job......when things like safety is literally EVERYONES job. I told his little ass to get fuked and if he wanted to do something about it he can fired me and I'll talk to the union rep.
Ive had someone die at work for not following safety rules, hell i broke my best friends face when he wouldnt give up the keys and tried to drive off after drinking half a fifth.

It's annoying because as a guy who values safety I think those clowns are one of the reasons there are cowboys flouting actual sensible rules. There's a middle ground. I wonder if the BNSF guy was being a douche because superiors pushed too hard on him and he said fuk this and went scorched earth with full documentation. Guy won a lawsuit out of it after all lol. The railroads don't have a Stirling reputation for safety, makes you wonder.Did he find legit safety defects or was he making things up or exaggerating things in order to get more bonus money?
