How many cals does lifting burn?

Talking about going one lift at a time, 5 sets, 8-10 reps each, 1 minute rest in between.

Versus doing five lifts in a row without rest but then taking a longer rest at the end before repeating.

Am I doing it right?

Help. Srs.

Ps: can rep 135 on bench like it’s butter

30 minutes of actual lifting (not resting and f**king around) burns 90 calories. So the answer is not much.

Go walk for an hour - 3 miles - and burn 300 calories.

For the average 200 lbs person who lifts for an hour burns an average of 300 calories in the whole workout. If they are doing a conventional push pull type of workout which consists on 5 exercises per workout session, then each exercise done with multiple sets, reps, and progressivly increased weight, would roughly burn 40-60 calories.

So I actually took this advice and walked a lil 3 miler today with the doge at the park. Feels weird cuz it’s not running, but getting back in shape and losing the last 50 pounds I gained this year seems accomplishable now.

Dead srs too. Haven’t done any exercise this whole year and went to dr the other day, weighed me at 250 and was 175 a year ago.

Knock yourself out
The energy needed to lift a weight depends on the mass, the height and the gravitational acceleration. The formula is E = mgh, where E is energy in joules, m is mass in kilograms, g is gravitational acceleration in meters per second squared, and h is height in meters1. For example, lifting a 1 kg weight 1 meter on earth requires about 9.8 joules of energy.
1 KJ = 0.238 calorie

Example:

Press 60kg dumbells 12 reps. (I mean 30kg each)

Call distance 0.6m.

E (per rep) = 60 x 9.8 x 0.6
= 353 joules

E (per 12 set) = 353 x 12
= 4234 joules
= 4.234 KJ
= 1 Calorie (1.016)

this.

people who lift a lot or do some sort of HIIT/crossfit actually fatigue themselves. lifting is taxing on the CNS, and it can be countereffective and increase hunger. You'll start to move around and fidget less during the day, so it's possible its merely a wash on the caloric burning effect from lifting itself

walking 10k+ steps a day burns a modest amount of calories while not affecting recovery and increasing hunger

Kinobody and other youtubers discuss this further

According to my workout tracker app I burned 496 calories today during a 55 minute lifting session with an average heart rate of 123 bpm (srs).

Not sure how accurate that is but I’m sure it’s ballpark.
