I was on a plane on 9/11

Flying from Portland, OR to SF. Pilot came on the intercom and said "we have had a national emergency. We will give you more information when we land."

They told us that the towers had been hit by planes and that was all they knew. It all unfolded over the next 2 days. Was stuck in SF for 2 days, all air traffic shut down, no rental cars. We finally got a minivan and drove back.

I was in east Asia, riding a bus heading in for the evening and a guy on the bus said, it's terrible what happened in the US today. I asked what happened. He told me terrorists flew airplanes into the twin towers and that they fell down. It wasn't unusual to talk to people there and have them be completely wrong about US events, so I figured he was probably just misinformed. Of course, everything was confirmed over the next few days. Security flying home was nothing like flying over.
