I have a daydreaming addiction

I’m 28 and have come to realize that I daydream excessively to cope with stress or feelings of powerlessness in my daily life.

For example, if I read an article about some sort of injustice, I might have a daydream where I’m some sort of vigilante and I brutalize the perpetrator in question. I may or may not also be a martial expert, a guns expert, and have superpowers. I strongly believe I may be autistic to some degree.

Depression/anxiety is just misdirected energy. Quit being a sad kunt and channel that energy into proper pursuits

Did you have a traumatic childhood op? I am also prone to excessive daydreaming and am pretty sure it's just how I adapted to childhood trauma. As a child, especially with abusive parents, fight or flight is pretty much a no go since you can't run or hide and aren't physically able to fight, so you develop other coping strategies like being a supplicant to your parents, always feeling the temperature of the room to make sure it's not too "dangerous" to speak, and taking great care to not say something that could change the temperature, sort of like someone who developed stockholm syndrome.

Another coping strategy is just to freeze up like a wounded animal about to get eaten by a predator while you await the sweet release of death. That's where the excessive daydreaming comes into play. When things get too real, we have a tendency to escape into our dream worlds as a coping mechanism and to raise dopamine levels.

Yeah, I'll constantly make up scenarios of being a hero and saving people from death or something. Usually along with the day dream scenario of striking out the final batter and winning the state championship in high school baseball 20 years ago, making my dad proud of me for once. i'm 24/7 depressed and anxious, so maybe it's just to cope with that.
