It makes me laugh when people say Muhammed Ali would be champion today.

Ali's best win is over George foreman

Foreman was seen as this gargantuan man mountain.

"big George"

He had primitive skills, poor stamina, could punch (for the time and his size) but that was about it. He was also only 24 when Ali beat him.

Oleksandyr Usyk, a guy with 10x the skill and talent of Foreman is considered a tiny heavyweight today.

Usyk is 6'3" and 222lbs

Forman was 6'3" and 220lbs

Discussion over.

Ali's best win over the "giant" isn't even as big as Usyk, who is also a better fighter than Foreman in every way.

Ali dies vs Usyk, and don't even get me started on what Tyson Fury does to him.

Times have moved on, those primitive midgets from the 50's would get bashed up by today's cruiserweights.

Yeh but it’s not fair to compare generations. Give Ali the same environment most boxers have today and it’s not even close

In his generation though Ali achieved more than any of the divas in today's heavyweight division.

People liked to say that Rocky Marciano wouldn’t last in Ali’s day, which is true because he was a baby at 5’10 and 185 or so.

Same logic applies to Ali because of how big modern heavyweights are.

For some reason though the biggest cope I see is how a prime Tyson would wreck todays top talent. He couldn’t handle Lennox because of his length and Lennox is only 6’5”. Wilder and Fury would’ve been just too long for him, same as the Klitschko brothers.

Agree with this take except prime Mike Tyson (mid-80s) would fare much better against Lennox Lewis than the washed up, punch drunk, emotionally unstable junkie 2002 version of Mike did. Boxing fans put too much into the mythology of prime Mike Tyson, but at the same time there’s a reason they do. He was a fkin monster with the athleticism, speed, explosive power and elusiveness to get the job done against anyone… according to the eye test.

As for Ali, I doubt he’d beat any of the heavyweights today. Neither would Marciano, Joe Louis, Joe Frazier, Larry Holmes, etc.

I do think Lennox Lewis is when you’d start seeing an older champion compete evenly with the modern giants.

Ali in his second career had a pretty leaky defense despite being known for being hard to hit.

Usyk as a small heavyweight has to have extreme focus on defense because his head could get taken off at any moment. he got saved from a KO by the ref last fight against a non top 10 heavyweight.

Anyway if Ali was fighting today he would have to adjust, he would either have to put on weight with modern PEDs, boil down to cruiser and/or adjust his style.


And seeing how Usyk deals with body shots (he hates them), I dont think OP has considered foreman's chances of stopping Usyk head to head are very high.

I'm not even an ali fan but there is no heavy weight in the ranks today that even belongs in the same class as a joe,Louis, a jack Dempsey,a rocky Marciano a sonny liston, a joe Frazier a mike Tyson (86-88). Sorry today's heavyweights are just not there .

You clearly know nothing but your own opinion . When opinions are backed up by some facts it's one thing but since you clearly don't know the sport of Boxing your opinion and based off just that YOUR OPINION

This. It's like arguing that today's F1 drivers would smoke 1970's F1 drivers.

Imagine if you cloned Ali, and brought him up with the same path of pro boxers we have today along with the supplements and everything else. Talent is talent. He only had what he had and mogged everyone. If he had the tools and resources today's boxers have, the trend would continue. Imagine Ali after a cycle of celltech and other "therapy", would be a beast.

I think one big reason Ali is popular is because he was such a mogger.

I never liked the man.

Thought he was good but way over rated. People nowadays think he was the greatest of all time but thats pretty much because thats what he told them to think. he was always spouting off about that crap.

Didnt care much for his politics either but whatever.

He was 56 - 5 with 37 ko's. A respectable record no doubt about it against some very tough opponents but lot of guys had records like that.

Foreman went 76 - 5 with 68 ko's just for some perspective.

The old school guys deserve more respect though. Even around the 80s/90s they were usually fighting x3 times a year with very little ducking. They were tough mofos as well that threw a lot of heavy punches rather than always be avoiding by clinching and dancing around.

AJ was champion so i don't know why it will be impossible for Ali.

If you talk about Fury, he get KD by Wilder who doesnt have 1/10 of Ali skills and boxe iq (a one punch man tho).

If a fight between Ali and Fury goes to decision, i put my money on Muhammad.

What a load of nonsense. Ali fought world class opponents and so many legends throughout his career and is the fastest heavyweight ever along with Mike Tyson. Ali would beat all modern top heavyweights

They have a lot better PEDs today, 70s they didnt have much, mostly stuff for weight loss. 90s they were doing bodybuilder cycles thats why guys like holyfield, tommy morrison and tyson post prison had huge traps.

Ali in the modern era would look a lot different. The biggest thing these days is boxers over 35 are still on top. 35-42 these guys are still competitive where as it used to be like 33 years old you were getting near shot. That is the PEDs these days keeping late 30s boxers on top of the young guys. And they got stuff for stamina like EPO its not just bodybuilder cycles of the 90s, they are sport specific PED use now.
