How much OT would you work?
Let’s say you’re an anesthetist and make $500k a year working 4 10 hour days a week as a traveler. You have the opportunity to work as much OT as you want. OT pays $256.5 an hr so you get $2565 for a 10 hour day to come in on your off day. You have to wake up at 5:20 am to get there by 7 am and you leave at 5 pm. How much would you work? If you work 60 hours a week then you make $766k a year but you’ll be exhausted 24/7 because the job is exhausting and stressful as ****. It’s a level 1 trauma center so sick ass patients and huge cases. If you work the regular 40 hrs a week you make $500k which is plenty but you could still make heart surgeon or neurosurgeon money if you no life it and grind yourself to the bone 6 days a week.

Travelers are getting phased out and rates are already down 25% this year. I would probably pick up a shift a week and squirrel the money away. Chances are you aren't making this kind of money again.
I often wonder what is going to happen to these nurses that have been making $250k these past 3 years, but will only going to be able to make $110k or so moving forward.

Not the same thing but…… when I was an employee I worked as much OT as I could. Normally I’d get 20-40 hours a week OT at double time.
Work while you can, might not always have the option for ot. Just spend your regular time and save the OT

Fukk no. I have a hard time not calling out sick and using my days. I'm not really motivated by money, especially when I have a modest lifestyle and dont spend like a retard. (Super Ded fkn Srs)

Maybe one day of OT a week
But I probably wouldn’t do any
And would instead save and then invest the money I already make
Become your own boss, don’t just wagecuck
Realistically I would only need to make that kind of money for about four and five years and then I could retire

Travelers contracts are dropping and hospitals are on the path of completely phasing out Travelers. I would expect you wont get renewed after 2025. My hospital is budgeting to be down to 10% of what we were in 2022 by the end of 2024 and I know from meetings we are not alone.
I would rake in the cash right now save the excess and learn to live on what ever in house anesthetists make where you are looking to live.

pace yourself and live way below your means. You dont want to burn out.
Maybe do some stretches of high hours and then back off a lot or take vacation.

Also I wouldnt be surprised if the recession finally hits hard, as in lay offs, then anesthetists hours will drop off, I remember in 2009 after the crashes and layoffs, the dentist staff was talking about how their hours were cut since they had way less customers since people who lost their jobs werent coming in for dental care. it will be the same for elective surgeries.

My uncle was an anesthetist and banked big time, but was rarely around and always cancelled **** at the last second. He had planned a hunting trip for us once and didn't show up to the bunk house, turns out he literally was buying coffee at a gas station a mile away before his pager went off and he drove 150 miles back to the hospital.
