Dan Bilzerian says there’s a point where money no longer buys happiness
Dan Bilzerian says there comes a point when having piles of cash doesn’t bring happiness and that he gets more joy out of things that don’t cost a penny.
The 42-year-old says he’s worth around $350 million and is known for his OTT, decadent lifestyle, but insists that it's the simple things in life that mean the most.
In an interview, the poker player explained that while money has its advantages, it doesn't automatically bring happiness.
“A lot of people equate money to happiness and it’s not, it’s more freedom,” he said.
“What people don’t understand is that once your basic needs are met, you don’t get incremental happiness from more money.
“You do for a short period of time. If you’re a $100,000 a year guy and I bump you to $200,000, you’re going to be happy but that’s not going to last. You’re going to get used to $200,000.
“My problem is there’s nothing that I buy that brings me happiness. I bought a Ferrari - I wasn’t happy for more than 24 hours. I put a hundred miles on the f**king thing in a year and then got rid of it.”
When asked what made him happy he said: “Surfting. Hanging with my friends. The s**t that doesn’t cost money, if I’m being honest with you.”

Surfing costs money, last I checked you don't get surf boards for free from the surf board fairy, driving to the beach requires a car which requires money to purchase, which also requires gas, which also requires car insurance and registration, all of that chit costs money and unless you drive to the beach nude you need clothes to wear when out in public and you're probably going to get hungry at some point and thirsty and you will need to purchase provisions, so shut the fuk up, Dan Fraudzerian.

Of course money doesn't buy happiness - you also have to be a decent human and be nice and good to other people. Otherwise if you're just a miserable kunt blowing money all over the place, of course you still aren't going to be happy.

1. no chit, the hedonic treadmill is a real thing
2. he didn't earn his money anyway, and there's a reason all these rich celebrity kids who inherit a ton of money end up going crazy or getting hooked on drugs

It can buy you a new liver or kidney though in many cases. That can make someone happy i suppose if they were about to die.

Yeh the problem is that we adapt too quickly, and it works in both positive and negative directions. Good or bad things happen, circumstances of your life change, it can matter in the short term but we eventually return to our default level of happiness and state of mind.
Hedonic treadmill, hedonic adaptation, it's not realistic for us to always be over the moon happy and constantly chasing happiness is part of what pushes society forward

that said...how much of this guy's happiness comes from not having to work/seek money? all that prime pussy is around him solely because he has money/provider. not saying they don't like him but c'mon son.

Look at all the neetmaxxers and so called FIRE people. All they do is post on misc all day.
Wealthy people always find something to do. Hell even making money can be a sport.

It’s true. I really don’t need to work, but work brings me a lot of enjoyment so I hustle my ass off doing it and success is what drives me. Otherwise life would be crazy boring and feel pretty empty. Travel also serves this purpose, but not expensive travel, cheap travel meeting people and making good connections. Experiences.

Not having to work would just be like anything else IMO, great at first and then it becomes your baseline and your appreciation of it starts to decline

He has an offshore trust fund. His father hid his fortune overseas before he went to jail. Most of that money lost in the weed company is other people's money(investors).

Money let’s you just chill with boys all day and go surf, skate, biking, etc. Try doing that without the income. Now you’re a hobo living out of a van.

i like options, choices, freedom, time, and independence. i don't care much about material possessions. i like personal freedom. i just wish most of my friends had the same freedom. they are chained to jobs and families.

I've preached this for years and people just can't wrap their mind around it.
Once you are:
- not stressed financially
- have a full belly every day
- safe home that's warm/cool/keeps out rain
- relatively good health
- a reliable/safe vehicle
THEN -- happiness is on YOU...YOUR mindset, YOUR outlook, YOUR pursuit of Jesus Christ.
MORE and MORE money may give you temporary jolts of happiness but not necessarily lasting happiness. This is why you see celebs and the like that have massive amounts of money but still can't find that certain something that others with less money seem to have.
