China was suppose to overthrow their Communist Regime after they got rich...

Anyone old enough to remember how politicians would sell the openning up trade with China as if it will eventually free Chinese people from their Commie Regime? They would say: after they have built their middle class, they will demand more freedom.

What a crock of absolute chite that was.

All it did was make CCP stronger than ever.

We lost substantial industrial power.

China got rich.

lulz.

Still a middle income country, on par with Mexico's per capita GDP. Ten times Mexico's population though of course, so it sticks out.

That was phase 1. Phase 2 is to wait for an economic downturn and stir tensions to overthrow the CCP. People will put up with no freedoms as long as they're prosperous.

CCP knows this crystal clear, which is why they've pursued after economic development at all costs.

Things looking very bad for them ATM. Their youth unemployment is around 25%, which is the danger zone where arab spring happened. Their real estate sector has been completely devastated. There's a lot of dissent and memes online if you know where to look. Their great firewall has cracked down so much it can't contain the memes anymore, and a lot has leaked to the free world.

Their GDP is extremely undervalued, because they've artificially depressed their currency, which they can do, given that everything is made in China, and they have little need to purchase foreign goods.

I've seen it mentioned that China's current leader is more of an old time communist. He doesn't care for the power private companies have developed and has been fighting against them and winning. He views private firms as competition to the communist party.
