A republic is a form of democracy, just one where the government is "of the people" rather than being ultimately owned by a monarch or something similar.

The US is, by every definition, a democracy, and always has been.

When the founders criticised democracy, they were criticising the old Greek styles of direct democracy where people gathered in the Acropolis to vote on specific issues. That was the only real type of democracy that had existed at that point in time, and was associated with possible tyranny of the majority and so forth.

So the US became a representative democracy with a Constitution preserving basic rights. And is a republic in that it doesn't have a monarch and the democratically elected leader is also the head of state.

At some point in the last couple decades right wing retards jumped on this "we are not a democracy!!!" line whenever disenfranchising people becomes politically useful to them, but it isn't true of course.

Democrats have been wanting to do away with the constitution for some time now.

As I was reading yesterday, Democrats don't care all that much about elections anymore.

Then after terrorizing Democrats and some independents with monstrous caricatures of Trump for four years, the party and its allies were willing to do anything in 2020. And they did.

Biden’s weakness, elderly and running a basement campaign, was a strength, not a weakness.

Democrats, convinced that they couldn’t win naturally, pulled out all the stops, at the state level, exploiting public health emergencies, unilaterally changing voting rules, setting off race riots and bringing the country to its knees. Would they have been as desperate with a strong candidate?....

Actually, the Constitution is very outdated. The problem is that we don't have anyone currently in our government with the integrity to update it with the best interests of the country. Way too much monetary interests involved in the shaping of the government that the Constitution is basically impossible to make improvements on.

You have to be smoking copious amounts of crack to believe they'd have the opinions they have if Hillary won in 2016 through the electoral college process, or if Hillary had been able to nominate several Supreme Court justices instead of Trump. "Experts" = partisan loyalists in that CNN segment. It didn't take long for for the first dude to cite Trump as to why the Constitution is outdated. Predictable and like clockwork.

Something almost everyone wants is term limits for Congress. If anything about elections is to change that has to be first. Something like 16 yrs total is more than fair. Yes that means no three time Senators unless they're serving a partial term in there.
