U.S. national debt hits $33 trillion for the first time
Keep flexing on Ukraine LOL...
The national debt of the U.S. reached a historic milestone by passing $33 trillion for the first time, less than two weeks before the federal government faces a potential shutdown over a lack of funding authorization.
The debt, which equals the amount of money borrowed by the federal government to cover operating expenses, hit $33.04 trillion Monday, according to the Treasury Department.
A roughly 50% increase in federal spending between fiscal 2019 and fiscal 2021 contributed to the debt topping $33 trillion, the department said.
Tax cuts, stimulus programs and decreased tax revenue as a result of widespread unemployment during the Covid-19 pandemic were factors in driving government borrowing to new heights.
The issue of the debt is at the center of a standstill in Congress over a spending bill that would sustain the government until the next funding cycle.

The whole national debt-situation began with conservative icon Reagan. When he took office, debt was 31% of the GDP and less than $1 billion. When he left, it was 51% of the GDP and $2.9 billion. So a 20% jump under his watch.
The debt was stable for much of the Clinton years and even went down in 1998-2000 cause of that 1990s greatness economy. But everyone besides Clinton saw the debt go up

So anything that happens on reagens watch was due to Carter's economic plan. Anything bush sr and clinton had was thanks to what regean and bush accomplished.
What do you think happens a president passes laws and trade agreements and the results pop up within months ?
It takes years

The power of appropriations lies solely with the legislature. This is why Trump couldn't just fund his own border wall and had to ask Congress to fund it.
Congress passes spending bills, the President just signs it. That "budget surplus" liberals love to point out under Clinton was during a Republican controlled House and Senate. Not saying Republicans aren't partially to blame, just adding context.

These fkers in the government are an absolute embarrassment. Do they have a choice not to pass the bill?
House Speaker McCarthy squeezed from all sides in government shutdown fight, markets grow worried
House Speaker Kevin McCarthy is entering a crucial new phase in his grueling effort to pass a government spending bill through his fractured Republican caucus.
Investors are growing concerned that a government shutdown would cut into 4th quarter GDP and undermine confidence in America’s ability to keep its own government open.

It's a hot night. The mind races. You think about your knife: the only friend who hasn't betrayed you, the only friend who won't be dead by sunup. Sleep tight mates, in your quilted chambray night shirts.

Ukraine leader Zelenskyy to meet with Biden, Congress assome Republicans sour on support
The White House is seeking $24 billion in additional aid to Ukraine, which it hoped would be passed alongside a continuing resolution to avoid a government shutdown as federal budget negotiations continue.
The measure has bipartisan support in the Senate. But it has been held up in the House of Representatives, where some members, likeRep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., have said they will not support any additional aid.
House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif. is in a difficult position on the issue of Ukraine due to a slim GOP majority in the House, which gives individual Republican lawmakers leverage to pressure him to accede to their demands.
Conservatives balked at McCarthy’s proposal last week to pair Ukraine aid with additional border funding.
