Traditional electronic communications are initiated by calling. A call is made.

When a call recipient receives an incoming call they are alerted to that by a ring sound. Loud, until the call is answered, or rings out. That is the notification for the incoming call. After call is initiated, no notifications required, none given.

All is good.

Now we have Chat Apps.

Chat apps are always on, always connected. No call.

But, we humans who use chat apps still treat them, for the most part, as call based. We say Hi, how's your dog, send a dick pic, say Bye see ya next time. The 'call' ends.

And we still want to know that we have an incoming message, or 'call' - attempt to initiate a conversation.

So ********-Meta Messenger gives us the option to Notify that a Message is received. A Ding, and a Vibrate.

FOR EVERY SINGLE ****ING MESSAGE. ALWAYS EVERY SINGLE ****ING MESSAGE, OR NONE AT ALL!

Now, once I'm talking to someone I don't need every single message to result in the whole room knowing I have a message. I don't even want that if I'm alone. Just tell me when a new message has arrived from a person I'm not currently in conversation with.

Technically this is easy to do. 2 things to add:

1. Don't Notify if chat window is already open.

2. Don't Notify if last message received from that person was < x minutes/secs ago.
