Any landlords in here?

How many rental properties do you own?

How much money do you make on your rental properties?

I've thought of it, could own a few, and have friends who do, but I really don't want to deal with rentcels. Ever. I just want to be left alone. Don't need that headache

Landlords may also hire property management firms to do all the "dealing" for them.

It is a side hustle for me, no "headache" at all. Sometimes I wonder about the resilience of some posters here, if even full time employment and human interaction are "too much" for them.

Was a Landlord for a number of years. Helped set me up in the current house, to enjoy it with the wife and kids.

Got talked out of keeping the rental house, since rentcels were becoming annoying as fook, thanks wife. Missed out on 40% house value gains plus years of rentcel payments. Fuark.

Never listen to what those shrill harpies have to say, brahs.

This was the way for a lot of immigrants back in the day. Buy a house, rent out the basement or attic etc to cover mortgage payments.

The only folks I have ever met who deride landlord hustling are folks without the capital to make it happen srs.

There's probably only two people on this entire board who respond to these threads I actually believe are legit landlords. One because he has clear financial sense and has posted proof, and one because he's the epitome of an entitled douche.

Then there's the LARPers who just like entering these threads to troll. You can guess who they are.

Little known fact, most landlords don't actually know how many properties they own. They also don't know how much money they make off their properties. One last tidbit for you. Many landlords are known to live passively of their spouse's income.
When it comes your time to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with the fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song and die like a hero going home.

I have a few houses. I hired a property manager to take care of everything while I focus on my career.

Every time a renter misses rent I always tell myself why the **** do I bother having rentals. This month one of my renters said she couldn't pay because someone stole her bank card and emptied out her account, apparently the bank froze her account and the investigation takes 10-14 business days. I asked for proof which she wouldn't give. Gave her a 10 day notice to GTFO as this is the 3rd time in 6 month shes late on rent.

With sky high interest rates, it's important to put a big enough down payment on a rental property so that the rent you receive covers your mortgage payment (which is all ****ing interest now) and leaves you with extra to cover repairs, property tax and insurance.

I have one house that I’m renting out for $2500/month

First time doing it though, current tenants have been in there for almost a year now. Just hoping they aren’t destroying the place tbh.

i inheritted my moms rental properties after she died.

2 4 plexes

honestly i still kept my 40k job cuz they dont really make that much. roughtly bout 3.5k/mth after tax/deductions and assuming the tenants pay. you arent gonna make it in the rental game until you have 10+ properties. Plus now i have to deal with constant drama (noise complaints) and a lot of dumb nonsense between the tenants AKA got to drunk and lost their keys so call me at 2am to let them in.

We bought a cabin up in a popular lake/ski town here in CA a few years back with the intention of renting it out & moving out of state. We lived in it for a year remodeling it & making it pretty nice & cozy. We actually made it a bit too nice & really liked spending time up in the mountains. Talked to a lot of townsfolk & other landlords & all of them agreed that renters up there will ruin the property. We decided to keep it as a little get away & just have friends & family use it. Might rent it out one day when we actually do leave the state, or just sell it as it has skyrocketed in value.

Not all property management companies are worth AF though, and I've had some really bad experiences with them. Tenants paying the rent and "accounting errors" that kept them from paying ME, phone calls unanswered, voicemails, not returned, emails ignored, etc. I'm dealing with one right now that is getting ready to GTFO for those very reasons.

So go check on it.

If you don't then someday you'll wish you had. I promise you renters are some of THE most IDGAF "victims" of everything on earth. Give them an inch and they'll take a mile - then whine because you didn't give them 10.
It's a hot night. The mind races. You think about your knife: the only friend who hasn't betrayed you, the only friend who won't be dead by sunup. Sleep tight mates, in your quilted chambray night shirts.

I walked by my old place the other day, which I kept pretty decent care of. Coming out were three Indian immigrant males, with another one lurking in the background. Four cars in the driveway for a four bedroom house. Lawn and everything else looks like crap. Guaranteed they are wrecking the place.

That's average price for hot spots in the Bay Area that are not in the chithole ghettos where homeless people. gang members and illegals hang out in front of your house

Unless you're old, poor, disabled or have some special circumstance be prepped to spend about 2k per month on a 1b1b apartment with 1 private parking spot (parking here is fooked)

That's still on the cheap end and not including utilities..If you want a nice place I'd say 3500 a month minimum and the cool spots are 5k+ bottom price

Been renting 10 years.

Before covid was amazing

Post covid it isn’t worth it and I’m moving on from renting.

Last 4 years it’s been nothing but “I lost my job, I don’t have money, my bank account is frozen in the abyss, my fathers friend tripped last week I can’t pay rent!”

Most of all the damage I’ve had on my home, walls being punched in, my island somehow got ripped up from the floor, woman throwing non flushable wipes down the toilet causing flooding on 2nd floor multiple times, clogged drains, dirty stained carpet that costs thousands to replace, blowing up the AC condenser outside in summer by putting AC to 65 degrees in 105 degree weather, cops bothering me looking for old roommates for crimes, broken fences, dogs tearing holes in the lawn…

Breh I can go on for days. Since post covid I swear people act homeless, careless and entitled

I had one tenant try to argue he was working 2 weeks out of the month traveling and he should only have to pay half the months rent

Oh yeah can’t forget the scratched/dinged walls and door trimmings torn up from dogs and them moving ****
