It'll be 4k/60fps, it still won't have ray tracing. The graphics will be marginally better.

Agreed with the sentiment that pro upgrade is a waste of time.


If they ever do a pro update, I'll be there day one ... But nah man. Let me see what the PS5 can actually do and maybe actually put some effort into optimizing the games. I dont believe that the current systems are so gimped that we can't get good performance out of them.

It will not be 4k/60 fps. The current PS5 is rendering modern games at like 720p to 1080p. Games are only gonna get more advanced from here, there's no way the Pro would be so powerful to go from 720p to 4k.

More excited about the next Nintendo console than a pro. If a pro came soon however? I’d be getting it and would pair it with the best tv possible to get that experience too.

How about instead of throwing more power at the problem, they have the balls to tell developers to bother optimizing their games and to take notes from Sony's own first party studios? Even Spider Man 2 is going to have ray tracing across all modes, so I can't even point to that as being the problem - these other companies just can't be arsed to make their games run well while prioritizing box-checking "features" like ray tracing that they don't have the talent to balance.

He has gotta be the weirdest dude I have ever encountered on a gaming forum, and that is saying a lot. Like the dude literally just saves a bunch of random quotes from the regulars around here so he can try to weaponize them out of context. Then he probably goes back to playing TLOU for the 1,000'th time as that is apparently one of the only games he has played in recent years.

There are legit some mentally unwell miscers who save quotes and pics of someone who triggered them. The quote he has, I said maybe last year or very early this year. How does he have it this entire time? It's the saddest display of cuckholdery I've seen in this sub, I have nothing of him or any other miscer saved. Never will, it's too cringe.

Bongo's post wasn't a recommendation, it was a description of what the issue was...aka bad software and not hardware. You responded by asking the self evident question of why some companies can do good software but not others, and the obvious answer is that the others don't have the will or skill required to do it.

Assuming the pro is a thing you got at least a year to enjoy your current console before making a decision. What worries me the most about a pro is that since there's no Xbox pro this time, many devs will not bother to do the extra work to enable a pro mode just for one niche console. If the devs don't unlock the power, it won't be very effective.

Sony first party certainly will but for most other games we might just get slightly higher internal resolutions for dynamic scaling...Or a more stable framerate on games that have small dips off target. Not too impressive.

Horizon Burning Shores really showed what is achievable on current gen consoles. Shame only a very small number of devs can work such magic.
The biggest contrast to that I've played on PS5 is Car Mechanic Simulator. For whatever reason it looks like a ps3 game yet runs at like 20fps and its the least taxing genre of game imaginable. Just goes to show what a good dev team can produce Vs a chit one

Yeah I could never imagine taking this place THAT seriously, like we have our disagreements but we usually just say some chit and move on. This dude however, he will save random quotes for years on end and continue to bring them up out of context years later. It's like you can tell how much it must seriously bother him on a personal level when we say something he doesn't like. The dude will still be bringing that chit up like we said it yesterday any chance he gets. I couldn't even be bothered to remember anything he says, let one save it and try to bring it up all the time like that.

I'm not a huge tech nerd, but what modern PS5 games are running at 720/1080p? Last I checked, in most games you can choose either 30fps/4K or 60fps/1440

Then there is zero point, if anything this is just to benefit Sony because monies.

Oh, that's what you meant. So the consoles don't actually render new games at native 4k... They render at much lower resolution and use upscaling methods to output at 4k. These methods are far less demanding than native 4k.

If the rendered resolution is too low, say 720p in Final Fantasy 16, it doesn't provide enough data to upscale to a quality looking 4k....so games like FF16 will still be blurry and lacking detail even though they are at "4k".

Real native 4k is barely being handled by the most powerful GPUs on the market right now. A 4090 will barely push 4k60 on the most demanding games.

GT7 is 4k60 on PS5, how did they manage that? Beautiful looking game too, racing games aren't exactly untaxing either when you consider all the physics at play all at once, rain and weather effects, multiple AI cars on track etc

Yeah it looks fantastic. Zero Dawn and Tsushima are also native 4k on PS5 I believe. All these games were made to run well on the PS4 so the PS5 has enough power to run them natively. For current gen games, devs just want to push as much graphics as possible with as little effort as possible so they resort to upscaling instead.
