Lineman straight MOGGING low test, patchy beard engineercels

BRB making doctor money as a tradie. It’s at the expense of work literallly being your life though. I work the absolute minimal amount of OT that I can but still clear 200k annually. Even if I worked no OT, I would still make more than every single engineer at the utility I work for. Really makes me lol @ student debtcels. There’s lineman in CA that have grossed in the 500s by July and then taken the rest of the year off, but it’s CA so fukk that. Low IQ tradie reps

Lol what a strange stance to take. That being said, I somewhat agree. But in this line of work there is ALWAYS over time (storms, natural disasters, etc). You can’t get around that with hiring more personnel. It’s cheaper for the company to pay mass amounts of OT than it is to hire new people. I’d rather work 40 hours per week tops

This.

They cannot hire an overbloated full-time crew all year round 24-hrs day.

Uncle was a lineman. Every monsoon season, he called it money maker season.

Electricity has to flow 24/7/365.

I see this bullchit lie repeated all the time. My stepdad was a lineman and I had to turn in his W2 when I was doing scholarship stuff for college. In 2003 he worked a chit ton of overtime and still wasn't even making $75k. The only way you're making doctor money is if you live like gypsy's traveling from job to job working 7 days a week without a real home to go back to but literally any tradie job makes insane money doing stuff like that

I'm a lineman most I ever made was 350k that was with 5100 hours of ,,,converted,, overtime hours.
Converted meaning 2500 of dubs or 3400 of 1.5, it was a mix of box so let's just say 3000 hours of overtime plus my regular 2080 of straight.
I was at work non stop, I couldn't count the number of callouts that I took
At a different utility now, I'm at 220k right now they are cutting back the ot as much as they can.
If I get under 200k I'm moving west.

Yea they do very well. A good amount pull 350-450 here with pretty much all clearing 200k. I work for a utility. At my old job as an engineeringcel they were making close to 200k. At my new job as an operationscel they are absolutely raking cash in

okay then, What do you do if a job can be completed by two people, but a 3rd person would be overkill? It would be better to pay a couple guys a few thousand dollars extra per year than to hire someone for a full annual salary.

Unless they're doing the work of a an entire employee and there's a dip in quality and productivity, it would be a bad business decision to hire a new person to tackle a few extra hours of work per week.

Yeah, but they're working for every penny

-They graduate at the age of 35 with a literal mortgage payment as a student loan
-They're on-call 24/7 unless they're on vacation (which they only get about 2-weeks per year)
-You don't get holidays off because people are their dumbest during the holidays so you're bound to be called-in to work (blowing fingers off during 4 of july and New Years/boating accidents on Labor day etc).

The "engineercels" the op is mocking may only make $175k/year but they also work about 5 hours per day....from home. They're not busting their ass (in sweltering heat or freezing snow) as a lineman and they're not elbow deep in blood and sinew at 3am in the morning like a physician because some 17 year old gangbanger got shot.

as an engineer, you put in your time and youre done. No excessive overtime, and there's no "on-call" because you're working bankers hours.

Doing actual engineering work, drafting and design and stamping drawings, doesn't come with big $$$ in my experience

However an engineer taking on a management role has much higher potential, I have a 2-year engineering tech diploma (associates degree in the US) and invoice at almost $100/hr right now plus have a company truck and some other perks

Where do I find these $175K 5 hours/day engineering jobs? I'll probably clear $200K this year, but that's with about 3 months of field time working 7 12s minimum.

the old paradigm of studying hard in school is dead.
engineers are highly intelligent and worked extremely hard to get to their position.
linemen are basically blue collar workers who should be making $20/hr were it not for unions.

BRB the news reporting on the salary of a lineman is a lie lmfao. If your stepdad was making 75k as a lineman than he was a low test telecom lineman, probably working for Verizon or AT&T. It’s common knowledge that lineman in the electrical industry make bank, especially out west. Hourly rate in the 60s (or even 80s in CA) and anything after 40 is double time. Like I said, at the expense of working your life away. Like I also said, you don’t hef to be med. I work for a utility in the northwest and if I work absolutely no overtime (not possible) then I’m pushing 140k
