How Many Of You Train A Martial Art Or Conbat Sport?

I’ve been boxing for a few weeks now, and I’m kinda pissed at myself for not doing this earlier.

So far I’m doing 2x per week, but I want to up it to 3x soon.

It’s kind of mind blowing how much I’ve learned in so few sessions, including how almost nobody knows how to throw a punch. Or the very basics of slipping, rolling, or dodging.

Also cardio gains have been through the roof. I immediately noticed it during my pickup basketball games after 2 weeks.

The biggest benefit is the increase in confidence, and the newfound respect for not judging anyone by their looks. We do mitt work, and holding for a variety of guys shows that even a smaller dude with more training can pack tons of power and speed.

Did boxing/sparring few years ago consistently but was never that good at it tbh and always got wrecked by the experienced lads or amateur boxers in the gym.

However it deffo made me better at fighting than the average joe, when I sparred guys with little to no training would easily destroy them in the ring.

I haven’t really boxed for like 2 years now though.

I did Tae Kwon Do as a kid and sucked at it. I regularly sparred with a girl about my size and we were about evenly matched. I sparred my buddy who was a black belt when I was a blue belt and he destroyed me, it hurt so bad even with the pads. His kicks were like getting hit by someone that knew what they were doing. It was just us two and both of our dads, I guess it was just a friendly match. I felt so embarrassed to get my ass kicked in front of my dad like that, felt so helpless to not even be able to hurt him because my kicks and punches did nothing to him.

I can’t spar yet. Gym won’t let anyone with less than 1 year of experience try it. Mitt holding with a partner is great so far. My confidence is at an all time high as well. Not cocky, just a healthy confidence.

Tony Jeffries on YouTube got me more interested serious. His latest videos are click bait, but his older stuff is legit.

Did some wrestling back when I was a kid and a teenager. Haven't really done it in ages though. Thinking about someday joining the gym my brother goes to. They do boxing there.

I do a little bit of kickboxing, BJJ, wrestling, but very inconsistently.
It's great exercise and fun, and it's built my confidence.
Planning on doing it more consistently. The consistency would make a huge difference.

Been doing BJJ for about a year.

Did my first tournament 10 days ago, won 2 matches, lost 1 and took Bronze.

Boxing, Muay Thai and karate for years now. Also bjj.

I'm probably the best fighter on the misc at the moment (srs). Others will disagree but you'll notice they're not so quick to post videos of their technique

I used to, but unfortunately lost the motivation a long time ago. If I had a good school like down the street from me, then maybe I'd go, but otherwise...

Did Tae Kwon Do as a kid (no comment), then Wing Chun (no comment again)...then Wrestling, BJJ, and MMA (with some amateur fights). Part of me would like to spend some time just really focusing on Boxing and/or Muay Thai really in depth (and regret never doing that), but like I said...not motivated enough anymore and am probably past the age where I should be getting my brain rattled around sparring. It also sucks that Adult Wrestling is practically non existent past College.

I have done BJJ.

Lots of progress initially and it is fun.

However, as an aging, oft injured, busy working guy, with kids. Not something I could keep up with.
