Shoplifters

I start my new job as mall security guard this week I believe I will be looking for and busting shoplifters , they’ve been closing Walmart and target stores because of shoplifting

You legally can't do chit as a security guard to stop theft. Your only job is to be a visual deterrent. It's just an observe and report gig.

Security guards can't detain or arrest anyone unless that person commits a felony in their view, theft isn't that.

The most you can do is call the police and give them a description of the thief, video/camera footage, and a vehicle/plate description if you happen to be close enough.

Best with your new job. Hope you are able to thwart some shoplifting. All the retail theft is another reason why inflation has risen so much the last couple of years. the open borders is helping the cartels with their theft operations in America I read.

thought about going back to school and being a theft prevention officer.they actually do a lot of chit and its not an easy job.they actually have authority when it comes to these things.they can be consultants and all kinds of chit.they gotta write reports though like real cops.hell they are basically cops.they do have the authority to arrest people.you gotta go to school for it.i would be awesome at it.not gonna work anywhere crazy though.someplace like target or best buy.not walmart

Arrest or detain someone as a security officer for anything less than a felony, and see how that works out for you. You'll be behind bars faster than the thief, and you'll be the one receiving a felony. If OP takes your advice whenever the time comes, he'll be in a world of pain and regret.

I was a security guard in college. It was the GOAT job. You literally can't do anything, so your job is just stand there and get paid. If something happens you're just a witness.

I also worked overnight security from 9p to 6a. I just read books, watched movies on my laptop and slept.

Once I retire I'm going back to it.
