How strong is this job market IRL? (wagecels GTFIH)

Are you sweating bullets or feeling relatively secure?

The job market is strong, economists say — but workers don’t think so

The job market looks a lot like one that preceded the Covid-19 pandemic: one characterized by low unemployment and good job opportunities, economists said.

Workers’ confidence has deteriorated, though.

That’s partly because of financial stress amid higher interest rates and inflation, economists said.

Multiple rounds of layoffs at my firm and across our industry. Morale is very bad rn, every1 hates their company

In addition to layoffs, bonuses, promotions and raises were all neutered due to "industry wide" difficulty

To be fair we over hired like crazy during covid

Been at my company (a mega corp) for 5 years.

I've been aware of layoffs for a while, but especially during COVID and post-COVID. None of those had impacted my team / business unit. People in sales, customer-facing roles, teams that were being off-shored / vendored out, were among the majority. Until recently, with 1 round of layoffs that actually DID impact my org/team, but I wasn't among the chop-block.

I have a high sense of comfort. Post-covid I even felt self-validated because I got an offer at another company without much effort srs (after a couple of interviews they expedited me, I declined though).

For my specific field, the demand outweighs the supply when it comes to job-seekers. Allegedly at higher levels than nurses.

When NPR and the White House come out saying this is a strong economy, you should be very, very worried

Be very worried...

Microsoft-ownedLinkedInlays off nearly 700 employees

Microsoft-owned LinkedIn announced Monday that it cut almost 700 employees, with most coming from the engineering organization, according to a memo viewed by CNBC. Cuts also came in the company’s finance and human resources groups, according to a person familiar with the situation who asked to remain unidentified because they were not authorized to discuss the changes.

Department of Corrections needs so many bodies they dropped the hiring standards; no physical fitness requirements, most mental health checks are gone, minimal testing. Got a pulse? Hired! It's not a good thing...

1/13/16: Massive hernia.
5/10/16: Finally back to lifting, light but improving.

It's getting worse, but the job market has held up pretty well so far. I'd imagine things will take a strong turn worse during the next 60 days though.

Light cuts coming into 24 in my business. Finance industry sees a slow down in 2024, with the magnitude still being debated.

My suppliers (plastic resins, hardware, packaging, etc.) are already experiencing the slowdown. It's coming, we just don't know how bad it's going to be yet.

Legit wouldn't be surprised, make them like hall monitors or something.

Mostly it's incompetency; so many 21 year olds who this is their first job, half are terrified of inmates, just so much sht....

And yeah, I could see these kids getting caught up easily, less maliciousness and more stupidity and short sightedness.
