What to expect playing No Man's Sky for the first time?

Heard there wasn't much to do at launch, but is now really cool. All this fast travel through space in Starfield has inspired me to pick it up.

Any beginner tips? What do you think of the game?

Expect a boring game. That's all I can say about NMS. It's basically BoTW if there was no plot and no fun. It's just an empty sandbox.

Saw a good bit of this sentiment on other forums. Is it that the gameplay loop gets boring after X hours, or did you just not care for it much at any point?

There just didn't feel like there was anything significant to do, it was just a game that existed, with very little substance, at least IMO. Basically the game felt like if you landed on every single empty planet in Starfield and that was it.
