Cars are best economically, trucks utility, and SUV's in between.

I want a truck, but with how infrequently I'd need the bed, it's just an impractical buy.

Wrong

Hatchback is goat.

Brb fitting a 65" tv in my subaru impreza hatch while getting 35mpg highway

Brb fitting nothing in my jeep wrangler

When i had my Nissan xterra tho it had great storage capacity and I added +750lb leaf springs and better suspension so I could carry an absolute heavy ass load in that thing no problem. That suv was a tank.

Depends on what you're doing and where you're driving. I go camping, have a boat, kayaks, 4 wheelers, motorcycle, etc. so I need a truck to tow/transport stuff. I'm also considering getting into gokarting (Pretty badass track nearby and I know a few brahs with some souped up karts). With that said the city I live in has plenty of parking/space for driving pickup trucks. I've been in some cities where everything is so tight/compact you really need a small car to maneuver/park.

With that said my girl is a big fan of the Jaguar F type so I could see one of those sliding into my garage in the near future. I think it would be enjoyable to make night runs to the gym in it and go out to dinner in a badass car.

We also have a SUV for general travel and those are pretty nice too as we can comfortably travel with four people plus luggage. Way more space then a typical sedan.

Agreed OP. If it's just me I prefer driving in the sedan over our minivan and SUV (we inherited the SUV). I'm always amazed by how many people have 1 kid and feel they immediately have to run over to a dealership to get a SUV. But why? Or dudes with office jobs that have trucks and literally never use the bed. Why? Marketing.

That would be great for something off grid, but most people would think you are on a watchlist driving something like that.

Pretty sure the huge trucks with clean beds are just a flex. A very expensive flex.

I don't use the bed of my truck often. But when I need it, its nice to have. What's also nice to have is a towing capability, for when I need it.

I'd say 95% of the time my truck is clean and I have a locking cover over the bed so people can't tell if I have anything in it or not. But the 5% of the time I'm towing my boat to/from the river or lake or a utility trailer with a motorcycle or 4-wheelers. A truck is useful to have.

For some strange reason when non-truck people see a guy with a clean full size 4x4 truck they assume they should have a bed full of tools/rocks/dirt or be towing a trailer at all time to commute around or else its not a practical vehicle.

Actually trucks in this class are completely worthless at their price-point. They are over-priced for their capabilities. A SUV with a tow package and towing a small utility trailer makes more sense.

They really don't do anything well. There is a reason why they aren't common at all. Need to shave around 20K off their price to be a viable option for what they can do.

the price points are about the same as their suv counterparts without a bed..i.e pilot vs ridgeline. towed a utility trailer before...don't like it. do like a truck bed to just throw my lawn equipment/pressure washer/ladder in and go...or some piece of furniture/mulch, etc. not worried about a max value ratio for capability/price when i won't use it.

i believe a maverick can tow up to 4-5k with tow package...and even with worse mpg than an elantra still good mpg...especially the hybrid. seeing businesses that need a truck bed using the mavericks now
