Towards the end of world war 2 when the Japanese were aboard the U.S.S Missouri which was a cease fire when you see Gen.Mcarthur standing over the Japanese as they sign the papers.

If you look at the united states flag behind Gen McArthur it is upside down and reversed and it only has 46 (i46 or 47 I believe) stars on it.

And besides there are other mitigating circumstances to this anyways. A Russian delegate is there for this cease fire. Not surrender.. which if this was as described would have negated the entire ceremony anyways because Russia and Japan were still at war and engaged in combat with one another at this time..

That's a whole different area but Russia and Japan have a long history of war pre and post world war 2.
