Hell naw you don't want to do that. The pay system, the forward investment into tools, all the BS politics in a shop, toxic work environments. Become and electrician, lineman, even a plumber, better options there.
I say this as a mechanic of 25 years. Manufacture and ASE certified master technician, shop foreman, now I'm a technical support specialist working from home and do so just to get away from the BS. If I were to do it all over again, I would have studied to become a pipefitter or electrician, or honestly just gone to regular college in a STEM field.

If you have a decent mechanical aptitude, you can skip trade school and get a job as a lube tech at a dealership and work your way up.

I remember reading an article recently saying auto shops were having a hard time finding auto mechanics. Boomers are retiring and the younger generation hasn't show as much desire to work on cars.
