Fun Fact: The Spartans willingly participated in cuckery

Did you know that a Spartan citizen would ask another man to impregnate his wife if he felt that man's child would be stronger than his own child?

And it was considered an honor to raise that man's child.

The Spartans eventually got their as5es kicked by a bunch of literal homosexuals: The Theban Sacred Band, it was an elite unit of warriors and gay lovers.

Fun fact: The manlier Spartan had the right to refuse breeding another Spartan's wife if he felt she wasn't worthy of his coom shot, therefore it was considered a tremendous honor if he agreed.

Can't believe young men actually idolize the Spartans without knowing all the facts about them.

The massively diminished spartan army that was able to raise about 1/10th of its historic army, and was mostly made from perioeci rather than Spartitiates, was beaten by a bunch of homos3xuals, led by one of the absolute greatest generals of all time, Epaminondas* (and Pelopidas)

It's true to a degree, but one needs to properly understand their culture to form a decent opinion on it.

Most of the spartans lived a community life, with no personal wealth, and many children didn't even know who their fathers were (this was on purpose to harbour community spirit), and so they called most elders 'father'. Older men were encouraged to let younger, fitter men reproduce with their women yes, because it was thought they could produce good children for the state. You can view it how you want, but it ultimately comes from the Spartan cultural paradigm where they did not see themselves as individuals, but extensions of Sparta. Sparta had a complex political system with 2 kings, who did not wield absolute power, 5 ephors to keep the kings in check, a council of elders, and a constitution, and personal wealth was also not permitted but much of that changed after the Peloponnese war. Epaminondas was also not able to finish Sparta, and died at the battle of Mantinea, but he did re-organise the Peloponnese such that they were never able to reach their old status again.

Also, i'd say Op is a little wrong about one thing. Yes it was considered an 'honour' to allow your wife to be impregnated by a man who was a specimen, but the children were raised by the community in the agoge (the spartan youth training program),notby the 'cucked' spartan.

What's also overlooked is that Epaminondas was a genius of a general, and in antiquity was revered as maybe the greatest Greek general to exist up to that time, in fact Alexander the great would go on to use several of his military innovations in his campaign. Another fun side note is that Alexanders father Phillip Of Macedon, was held as a political hostage in Thebes during this era for some time, and is likely where he picked up a lot of his military innovations to form his near invincible macedonian army. At the battle of Lecutra, Epaminondas set up in a non standard way to the usual way battle lines were formed, and this is largely what was responsible for the victory. To put it simply as possible, he overloaded his left flank, making it many more ranks deeper, opposite the enemy kings right flank (usually the best troops went on the right as this was the position of honour), he then engaged the rest of his line diagonally, so that by the time his weaker, right flank engaged, his deeper left flank featuring the sacred band had already smashed through the enemies shallower right flank, where the Spartan king leading the battle was (Cleombrotus), and the spartan left flank was made of auxiliaries not Spartans, and so routed quickly after seeing the strong, spartan right flank smashed. However, the other Spartan king who really ran Sparta, Agesilaus II was at home because by this point he was quite elderly.

However, the Sparta that lost at Leuctra was massively diminished, and Sparta had been in a steady decline since winning the Peloponnesian war, and had been at war since under the Corinthian war, then the Sparta-Boeotian war. The money flooding into their city made a small ammount of people very rich, but many very poor so the majority of citizens couldn't afford to be Spartiates anymore (this is basically a good early example of inflation absolutely wrecking a previously strong state). There were later attempts to reinstate the old constitution by Agis IV (which went badly), and Cleomenes III (with mixed success)

As for the gayness, it happened amongst aristocrats sometimes but it was generally frowned upon in the Greek world; however Thebes and Elis both actively encouraged it by law, but they were the only states to do so (at least by legislation), and it's likely Elis had its own 'sacred band' too. What we also have to remember about the gayness is, it was not really practised by most cities in the general population, just some elites (and 99% of writing that survives is from elites not peasants) who practised in pederasty, and it was still frowned upon even by many elites. Platos dialogues are full of him judging men for physical relationships with other men, and Xenophon also describes it as shameful. The general idea of the 'sacred band' was that if a man and his lover fought together, they would fight more bravely. It's also worth noting that while the sacred band may have been the deciding factor, it was only a small part of the whole Theban army, being 300 men. The rest of the army were just normal Greek hoplites, not a unit of gay lovers.

If anyone wants to actually learn about it, i'd advocate against watching youtube videos, at least at first where many historians clumsily view things through a modern lens. The original source for this period in history is largely Xenophons hellenica, a former student of socrates who was exiled from Athens and fought for Sparta under king Agesilaus, and is worth reading, so all videos will be extrapolating from that anyway, thus it's better to view the source material yourself first so you can establish what jumps or assumptions some of these videos might be making, from the actual source material. Diodorus of Sicily also wrote about this period, but was not a contemporary at the centre of events the way Xenophon was. Plutarchs 'life of Agesilaus II' is pretty good too, although again, not contemporary

Yes, this is actually a fact. I know there's hesitancy to believe modern interpretations of European history, but you can look at documentaries from decades ago (before wokeism) and they reported that the Spartans engaged in cuckery.

There's a great documentary by Bettany Hughes (former HBB) that documents their homosexuality and cuckery

THis is an old documentary that's been reposted.
