Why do people care about humanitarianism with taking in refugees/economic migrants?

I guarantee there's a local soup kitchen or some chit these liberals could be volunteering at, but they'd rather virtue signal for the sake of bringing in future blue voters. Always talking, and never actually doing anything productive, year after year...
