Kiss is an awful band. I never understood the appeal of them.

All they do is screech the same two to three stupid sentences over the same basic riff over and over again and call it music.

You have to look at the time they were popular. Full on glam rock was very popular and they did it over the top with makeup and an amazing stage show. Plus they had people like Gene Simmons who DGAF and banged anything that moved, super charismatic.

In that era touring was king, and they were one of the greatest touring bands of that time.

Look at Queen - weird songs, a gay lead singer (which at that time was super taboo) but they were personalities and had great stage show.

Glam Rock is cringe looking back. Basically ****gy dudes dressing up like trannys acting tough because they yell into a microphone. Why did people consume that garbage in the 80s?

There was tons of good music that came out when Kiss was popular, too.

Had a client years ago who was in a 70's rock band and he showed me pictures of the entire band in purple bell bottomed jumpsuits with makeup on. It was just what was popular at the time.

Yeah they were pretty awful. Never liked them.

Gene Simmons seems like a dick as well, but I will say that at least he's honest when it comes to his band. I'm pretty sure I heard an interview with him one time that he said straight up that KISS existed to make money. I don't think he's delusional and thinks they're the greatest most talented band or anything like that.

Timely thread / 10

I just saw KISS in concert 4 days ago in Cincinnati and it was the best concert I've ever seen, by far.

OP is probably 20 and doesn'tget itand that's understandable. KISS has been around 5 decades, think about how remarkable that is.

I've read Paul and Ace's books, both are great reads. KISS doesn't take themselves too seriously, which is part of the reason I like them.

When you understand why they started painting their faces, and understand their shows are just as much visual as they are audio sensationalism, it makes sense.

Never been a favourite of mine.
But they're still miles ahead of Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Greenday and Blink 182 (ghey) bands that got big in the 90's.

I've seen them live before when a friend dragged me to see them about 15 years back or so. I didn't think it was that great.

Wow so much Kiss hate. I've seen them in concert years ago and it was a great show.

I've always been a sucker for this one...
