I didn’t move out , my home left me . When I was 25 I was on a skiing trip to Fernie back in the 80’s with my mom and stepfather.
I went to the washroom at the Mohawk service station in Coleman Alberta , and when I went back outside the car was gone .
Cops found my stepfather’s car abandoned at the Sparwood bridge , just 20 minutes away in the next province .
Parents never seen again and no signs of a struggle. It actually episode on some program , can’t remember the name of it but it will come back to me . I wasn’t on tv though as they used a stunt double.
Duh ,the show was called Unsolved Mysteries. Don’t know how to find the episode though , maybe Misc detectives .

As soon as you're done high school and college, you should be out within a few months.
I worked full time while going to school. Its helpful to work in the field you're going to school for, because they are more understanding and likely to hire you when you're finished. They see your potential for long term investment to the company.

Couldn't wait to leave home having a lifelong alcoholic father and all the family negatives that come with it.

At 18 I got a studio apartment downtown. Felt good but should’ve stayed home and stacked money for my future instead.

Left at 18 (in 2005) to go to college about an hour away....became financially independent at 19 when I was put on academic probation after my 1st year of college and my dad said "glad you're having fun.....if you want to stay in school you can figure it out cause I'm not paying for you to party anymore"....figured it out, got 2 jobs and took out student loans.
Moved back in with my parents for 4 months after college (in 2009) and paid 1/2 the mortgage and I bought my own groceries. Moved out after I got a real job about 3 hours away.
FF to about 2.5 years ago, I started sending my parents money every month because my mom was fired and my dad was on disability and they had $0 in savings.....and I funded about 1/3 of their expenses for the last 4 years until about 6 months ago after my dad died and my mom no longer had to take care of him and she got a good job again...spent about $40k on them in the last 3 years.

Psychologically speaking, I think it’s a good move overall for encouraging growth and independence.
Financially speaking, I think it can be a costly move for many.
For the average person (i.e. not super successful miscers), if you have chill parents you’re probably best off staying put for several years to build your finances.

I left at 18 and returned at 20 to go to college. Graduated college at 24 and moved out again at 25. However my parents went through a divorce when I was 20. So from 20-25 I was splitting house-hold bills with my mom. So she was essentially a room-mate.
Had my own apartment from 25-27 and built my house at 28.

Left at 18 to go to college. Back at 23 for 5 months before I left for the Peace Corps. Back at 27 with my wife for 3 months while we were waiting for our house to be finished. Gone for good at 27.

Ended up moving back home after covid. Everything became unaffordable. Now Im saving every penny I earn prepping for the housing collapse. Got 65k saved in 1yr so far in a high yield.

after graduating high school, today, will not net you any decent income unless you've learned a trade thats valuable or started your own business with revenue. Simply because nothing is affordable anymore.

Left at 18. Came back at 22 when min wage jobs while applying after graduating couldn't pay the bills while sleeping on friend's sofas anymore. Came back again in 2008 after being laid off in the finanical crisis. Back again in 2016 after a mental health breakdown (otherwise I'd have been committed to in-patient care).
All fine since 2017. Survived covid layoffs.
