Leave it alone and add more to it.
"To be a warrior is not a simple matter of wishing to be one. It is rather an endless struggle that will go on to the very last moment of our lives. Nobody is born a warrior, in exactly the same way that nobody is born an average man. We make ourselves into one or the other."-- Carlos Castaneda

-Take $15K and put it in the highest short term CD you can find, Put $2k into a savings account, leave $1k in your checking.
-Take $10K Open an investment account and buy high dividend payers. Spread 6k of it now and pepper in the rest over the next few months as the price fluctuates, contribute what you can comfortably every month for the next 30 years. Collect Dividend, re-invest. Put $5k in the highest short term CD you can find, leave $2k in your savings, $1k in checking.
-Go put $10k down on a Hellcat, $5k on a trip to Vegas, $2k in savings, $1k in checking.
Seriously though....what's your debt look like?

If you have any debts, pay it all off.
After that, leave 3-6 months CoL in your checking as a safety net. 3 months if you feel secure in your job and income, more months if you're insecure.
Put the rest into mutual funds, stocks, striving for diversification. Some small cap, some large cap. Some domestic, some international. Some in medicinal, technology, oil/environment, energy, etc. As this grows over time (hopefully outpacing inflation), you will maybe consider real estate.
