I heard about this controller that was a cheapo Amazon special that uses something called hall effect joysticks and supposedly they have 0 stick drift.

Well that was fukkin true. I got it today, there is 0 drift. Why the **** aren't all manufactures using these sticks? Supposedly they won't wear down like normal controller sticks either.

I paid over 200 bucks for an elite series 2 and the drift out of the box was terrible using 0 dead zone. I ended up prying the controller open and fixing it myself, but it's still there ever so slightly enough to annoy me.

Meanwhile this cheap feeling cereal box special Chinese bullchit has better sticks and still has the extra 2 back buttons I need. Don't even need any software for it either, you can do it all on the controller.

And it may be banned from my Xbox soon too lmfao

i've never had it, never heard of stick drift EVER til my nintendo switch about 2 years into owning it.


the sometimes it was "dirt" and cleaning it with alcohol worked, but sometimes it was the actually stick that needed to be replaced. nintendo knows its an issue and will fix your joycons free of charge if you send it in to them and decide you want to wait those 2-3 weeks to get it back.

but like i said, never heard of it or had an issue when it came to all the other consoles controllers... so i find it weird if someone says their PS5 or xbox series x controller has drift. I owned my PS5 since launch and use an xbox controller on the PC for controller style games and still no drift.

It's not something you will ever notice in most of your gaming.

By default most games have a dead zone because it's just easier to control, and makes it so there's no stick drift lol.

If you download a shooter game like apex legends and set your controller to linear response, no dead zone, you will see just how much drift you have. Linear/ No dead zone eliminates that fractional ramp up time so you get raw stick input.

Almost all controllers have drift to some degree, some are just worse than others.

The hall effect sticks legit have 0 drift though.



As far as spending 200 bucks on the controller, I wanted a new elite series 2 anyways because I didn't have a controller with paddles. and it cost a bit extra because I did a custom color combo. The only game I have drift issues with is apex legends because I play on sweat lord controls. I still use it for everything else no probs.

i gotta try what you mean then, for joycon drift its obvious, its basically like you are full sending your joystick in one direction and makes it unplayable in any game doesn't matter if its FPS or just scrolling through a game menu.

It's a known issue, and it's disappointing that Microsoft hasn't been able to fix it yet.

It's eye opening. Just try that website, you'll see your sticks will pretty much never recenter perfectly.Yeah it's just absolutely terrible quality control from ms. The standard controllers are whatever, but elites should have a higher level of testing / quality control. Aside from drift, my left stick comes loose when I rotate it left and press down. Which is alot in apex as I use it for jump and movement.

I shouldn't have to open it up and fix it myself on a brand new controller.

Yeah I have no idea, and it's not like I hardly play video games lol, I have put many long sessions into many games and usually enjoy gaming somewhat regularly.

They must be like those people who never change their oil, hop curbs, and drive like chit, only to complain about how their car has problems. Like for real, I have to wonder WTF a lot of these gamers are doing with their controllers lol, like how rough they are with them or how extreme they are at gaming. I mean I know controllers will wear out over time if you use them enough.

IIRC hall effect are sensors which measure stick position based on magnetic field. They're a step above potentiometers in the sim racing pedal world. Potentiometers can get filled with debris, wear out and can no longer accurately measure pedal position, maybe it's the same with controller sticks I'm not sure though

Had no idea but makes complete sense.

The Elite has a lot more common points of failure than just stick drift. Even if they used those sticks, it would still be unreliable.
Both my bumpers are ****ed, sometimes the A button sticks and I've had issues with triggers snagging.
Regular Xbox controller has stick drift.

Maybe I should change the oil in it like the idiot above mentioned.

It's hard to find a decent controller with 4 rear buttons too, most of these third parties only have 2.

it's just the action of the sticks wearing down over time. Most console FPS pros for instance go through 3-4 controllers a year. The sticks lose sensitivity pretty quickly. This new technology may be a game-changer tbh. Repped OP for awaring me.
