Corporate bros, should I agree to my managers request?

-Been excelling in my role. Only started 8 months ago.
-My manager's manager had a plan in a few months for our best agents to go to another city for 6 weeks to basically do our job, but in another city.
-This other city doesn't have a contact centre for the role I do, so they want to promote it there and show them how its done.
-About 12 workers were nominated, the majority had been in the role for a few years at least.

-Most of them rejected it, they don't want to travel, and as far as I can tell, there's no incentive. So basically it's, do the same job you're doing, but travel to a city about 2 hours away and show some mugs what your job is all about.
-They want 6 people minimum to agree, I don't think they'll get 3.
-My manager told me about it, I agreed initially, but then she kept repeating "think about it", and I picked up the hint that she didn't want me to go. I help out with her job at times, and we've got new recruits in our team which I usually help with training. So my manager needs me during that time.

no extra pay, they wont pay for your hotel/food? if no - then you either commute 4 hrs a day roundtrip for 6 entire weeks LMAO

I work for the biggest bank in Europe lol. I think they agreed to cover the travel expenses only.

It only makes sense if they pay for accommodation there, since nobody wants to make that trip everyday.

You need to either be making extra money for it or have a promotion promoted in writing (essentially extra money for it). If you just volunteer for 4 hour commute chit work, you are a cuck.

I am actually surprised your manager tried to stop you. If she was a real scummaxxer, she would encourage you to go.

I've explained my managers position.

My managers manager wants this all to go ahead, she shared the idea with all the managers below her and forced them not to dissuade any agents from going.

My manager wants me to stay, because I help her a lot and like I said, we have new recruits to the team, and if I don't help train them, it will be bad on her cos she hasn't really got anyone else competent to help. She could help train, but if I do it, it frees up her time.

Seems like a chit deal to me man. Let’s be real, the only reason to do this would be for the odd chance that it sets you apart and helps propel your elevation in the company. You know your company better than I do, do you see that happening?

I'd say I'm on course for a promotion regardless of this. However, it would be a good chance for networking.

Most people "volunteered" have at least 5 years experience. The lowest I've seen is probably 2 years experience, then there's me that's been here for 8 months. I am in the lowest "band" or tier amongst my colleagues. I'm pretty much guaranteed for a promotion the next time accreditation comes around.

I don't know if I will get any perks for this, but obviously there's no harm in doing it.

Of course you don't do it, and be very greatful you have a boss who actually has your back on occasion, even if it was to keep you around more to do extra work locally. A 4 hour round trip commute without a lot of extra incentive sounds awful. And they want you to do that for how long? I 100% guarantee that you'll never be rewarded properly for that later, either. If they won't pay you for it now, they won't change their mind later. Even if you did get a promotion of some sort later, doing something like that is pretty unlikely to have been what was the difference.

If they need it done they will compensate you for the greater inconvenience.

Kind of ridiculous they didn’t even offer it but I guess you have to try.

You might think that you will be getting in good graces with your boss by doing it but in reality, you will be less visible for that entire period of time. Someone else will assume your current helper responsibilities too.

So it will basically be like a mini demotion that you actually had to pay out of pocket to participate in what with gas and time and all.

They wont appreciate it. they will thank your boss for finding some suckers but thats about it.

If it was a real promotion that had the potential of leading to better things I'd say yes. However, it sounds more to me like they are just trying to get you to go fill in somewhere that they need help but they don't want to give you anything.

negotiate. at the minimum housing should be covered. 4 hours a day commute is a no-go. then tell your boss that you'll help her after normal hours because she agreed that the housing is covered - that's being a "team" player. Then schmooze with your bosses boss.

8 months in to the company. Yeah, step up. And show you want to be an asset and put the company first even of there is really no incentive in it for you. At least no short term incentive but you should be focused on the long term if you like this Jon and there is a future in it.

Take it and show them what you are capable of or you can not and just mix in with everyone else who doesn't get noticed.

See it as an opportunity to at least get the boss's boss to know and remember your name
