Language barriers are tough to deal with. Felt a bit awkward at chinese girls dinner

- been seeing this chinese girl for 2 months now
- on Saturday we had a plan to go to her house for dinner with her sister and niece who live there

- so I get there we are all sitting at the table. I'm a bit nervous off the jump but smooth into it. Just try to ask her sister a couple questions & even complimented the niece ( who looked 14~) on her shirt.

But then it got awkward when they all started chatting in Chinese. Like I just lost all context and ability to read the situation.
I've dealt with language barriers before dealing with Chinese girls but I knew I had to made a decent impression because I'm getting judged by the sister

After diner we went in my girls room and she kept joking and said " gonna go ask my sister what she thinks of you " I'm like whatever

Then we left and went back to my house for the night.

I hope they aren't too harsh on me considering I had no idea what was going on or failed to really interject into the Convo seeing I don't speak the language

I almost wouldn't be surprised if the sister said I was trash and I don't hear from her again...

I'm not that thrown off by the dinner and I don't expect them to speak all English in front of me

I just hope they realize it's not the most easy situation for someone who doesn't speak the language to step into it because you can't just casually get into the convo - u just have no idea what's being said

I agree. Sometimes it comes off as impolite so I try to only speak English or whatever the lingua franca is to make everyone feel included and comfortable.

Yeah she isn't the first one I've dated .

Just found it tough to step into a situation like that when I'm meeting her sister and the sister kid...bc obviously you're being judged wether you like it or not. Was a feeling a little flat that day too..
Not sure if we will last at all

I tried my best...don't blame them for speaking chinese. She said they can't speak English well anyway.

I know close to 0

Just always felt it be do difficult to learn the basics but the basics would be helpful to even to get a little understanding of what's going on lol
