Why don't americans drive diesel cars?

Seriously never made sense to me. Distances are crazy long in America so when it comes to range and cost/mile diesel cars are superior (hence trucks also being diesel)

Diesel engines are also stronger and last longer but diesel cars are a bit more expensive than gasoline cars.

So americans explain pls

Lol that's only for the older diesel engines. Newest are clean as fck, especially euro 6 diesel engines.

It's not the engine that is cleaner, it's the EGR that takes exhuast gases and recirculates it...which is horrible for a diesel engine long term and also horrible for diesel engines that are not ran hard.

And yet those new diesel engines still last much longer than the average gasoline engine. And thanks to EGR and DEF aka euro 6 the exhaust gasses are much cleaner.

You answered your question in your OP.

Capitalism is why we don't drive diesels. Corporations don't want us having a lower cost/mile, they don't want us to have engines that require less maintenance and that last longer.

They gotta make money....which means chits gotta break.

Buddy got a new Cummins and the def went bad and the dealer couldn’t fix it so they gave him a new truck jfl

I would love to drive a Passat TDi with a 6 speed manual transmission and a big aftermarket whistler turbo that makes it sound like a mini diesel locomotive, but diesel cars are almost impossible to find in the US after Dieselgate.

I had a VW Jetta diesel with a manual transmission back in early 2000s as a commuter car. F’n thing was awesome for what I used it for. Got about 50 mpg. But you did have to make sure that you either didn’t get low on fuel, or you better know where the gas stations that sold diesel were.

We did years ago,but the sales teams do not market them like they used to.
I had a turbo diesel vw jetta and it was awesome getting 500miles per tank.
The gas is more pricey but worth it if you can find a diesel vehicle.
Electric is the new diesel here in 2023.

Lol diesel is more masculine than gay gasoline.

Diesel cars have much more torque. Tanks and heavy duty vehicles all use diesel.

Drove a turbodiesel for a few weeks in Europe and thought it was ok but not amazing. Went to Nicaragua a few years later and drove a diesel Toyota Hilux the whole time and as soon as I got home I did hours of research on what it would take to import a diesel Hilux but basically it can't be done. That was probably the best car I've ever driven between mileage and capability off road.

Gas is $0.71 (0.66 euro) a liter here, but I'm sure there's some fukery going on to keep diesels out. I haven't read great things about reliability since they've mandated all of the eco stuff.

gas sells for $5-6 a gallon in CA

If everyone switched to diesel there would b big. Consequences or a pro gasoline manifesto ***goy would kill 10 people as an example (srs)
